How hard is it to get to and change the oil filter on the GT? With my '07 on order, I was hoping to be able to change my own oil, as I've been able to do on most of my vehicles. I've got ramps, hydralic jack & jack stands.

Also, as far as the Motorcraft Synthetic Blend 5W-20, has anyone found a good place/price to buy it from? I checked online and it looks like Autozone carries it, but Pepboys doesn't. I wonder if Costco or Sam's Club carry it.

It's simplicity itself. Unlike my sisters '96 T-Bird, there is plenty of room to access the oil filter from the bottom.

With the car jacked up of course!

The only issue is that the filter bolts onto the block at an angle, so you will lose some oil when you remove it. I try to have the pan under it and a rag or two to clean everything up once the filter is out and before I installl the new one.

My memory is pretty fresh on this as I just changed the oil on 05 GT yesterday...

What RRRoamer said. Very easy, a set of Rhino ramps is all you need. It is a 15 minute job....but its always nice to have a beer or two and turn it into a 30 minute job.

Wal Mart + Advance auto both had it, but neither in the large size, just by the qt.

This car ranks as one of the easiest oil changes. For those that may be a keep it clean as possible during an oil change type of person. I found it very useful to wrap heavy duty aluminum foil over the parts underneath the filter and form a drain down to your container. Makes cleanup a breeze.

I have always prefered Castrol Syntec 5W-30, I change my oil and rotate tires at 5,000 mile intervals, clean my brake calipers, clean the wheels real good, in the places you cant get when the wheels are on the car, while the car is up on stands. Makes everything simple for me.

I just got a service offer from my dealer and they recommend the same thing, oil change and rotate tires every 5,000 miles. Which is one of the reasons I cant understand so many people buying larger tires on the back than the front, then you cant totate the tires. Tires are way to expensive for me not to get the max milage out of them, I dont have any play money yet.

GT is 5w20 v6 is 5w30 recommended. The 5w20 synthetic is very nice so I would just use it.

Thanks all. Sound almost as easy as my '97 Expedition was. No ramps needed. The filter was also mounted remotely...right behind the bumper and a breeze to get to.

A word of caution to anyone else who has yet to an oil change: not all ramps will work well. While there is little overhang in the front, it will hit the ramps that I have. I need to use boards (to decrease the angle of the ramp) to get the car on and off without hitting the ramps.

As for the oil change, very simple and very accessible from underneath.

I agree, my 06GT is one of the easiest cars I have had to change oil on, the best was my old 76' F-150 with the 300six in it, kick a bucket under it, spin off and on the filter, toss in some oil and you are on yer way...no need for any jacks on that one I tell ya!

Just did my first oil change on the Mustang and I couldn't believe how easy it was. Easiest car I've ever had the pleasure (or mispleasure) of changing the oil on. As said above, Rhino ramps are all you need. Well, besides oil and a filter of course.
