DIY, Ceramic Painted Intake, and Valve Covers

Well as my first post I'll show you a DIY i did within a day

Over this past weekend I was stuck at inlaws so I took some Plastic Primer and Metal primer and went to town... Then used 1200* Duplicolor Ceramic paint over top, 10 coats I think it turned out well, and will go well with the blue sylicone connectors in the turbo kit. BTW I have turbohorsepowers twin turbo kit sitting in my living room as we speek. I have an appointment with Frank @ PSI Motorsports in PA for a tuning session Oct 13th.

I got the Idea from this car

It took about 3 hours to take everything off. pretty easy taking it apart. I took the main harness off the computer to allow better access to the passenger side, I also took the bolt holding the dipstick out so it could be held out of the way. 1-10 about a 5 in difficulty. Intake was fairly simple as well to take off, just take your time.

The valve covers I sanded down with 800 emry cloth. Then cleaned with parts/brake cleaner and dryed. I used metal primer for the valve covers.

The intake is plastic. You can either get Krylon Plastic Primer, or just get a White Krylon Plastic paint and spray it. It bonds specifically to plastic. Clean it first with a Paint thinner or Brake cleaner. This makes a perfect bond.

I never thought of painting the intake like that. Nice job! I like. Give us an update when you get the turbos on!

Pretty nice, but not quite as cool, or in this case hot, as this:

I never thought of painting the intake itself, until I saw the airbrushing. But yours has made me realize it could be real easy to paint myself. It'd probably look great in red under my intake cover. I'm a bit worried about pulling my valve covers, though.

The valve covers were actually easier to take off than the intake. they have a groove that the gaskets sits in to line it up on install. All goes back without any leaks. its real easy. You can take it off, paint it, and be back together in a day.

And whats better is that you can get powder coating results, from a little hard work.

300-400 valve covers that are powder coated or 3 cans of ceramic paint for $18.

Doh!

I thought you would say that!

But, maybe start yourself up a side business in Mustang engine detailing?
