Thumbs up

This past week I ordered a GT from a dealer in California close to where I live, but I am also trying to get a better deal from a dealer in Minnesota near where I grew up. I was worried about the costs of shipping the car from MN to CA once it came in though.

On Friday, the Minnesota dealer said that Ford can do a Courtesy Shipment. Basically he can have the car delivered to a dealer near me instead of to his dealership in Minnesota, even if I order it from him. Anyone ever heard of this, or is he blowing smoke up my rear end?

If this is true, then basically anyone can order a car from any dealership in the country and have it shipped to the nearest dealer to them. That way you could get one from the dealer that offers the best deal. You could get one from a state with the lowest sales tax as well.

You will still have to pay the tax for the state it is titled in. This is a common thing, used mostly for when a employee of the manufacturer orders a car.

This is definately available, but not all dealers are willing to do it. From the sellers end, if you don't pick it up, they have a vehicle they own sitting half way across the country. As far as the delivering dealer, they charge for this, some as much as $500, this tends to take away alot of the price andvantage.

As for the sales tax, you pay it where you title and register the vehicle not where you buy it. Also be careful about emissions requirements. In CA you need the california emissions which the minn dealer may not be able to order.

1. Dealer told me the Courtesy Shipping is Free to me and to them. Since it goes from Ford to a dealer near me and doesn't go to him in between.

2. I am going to title and register it in Minnesota whether I buy it in Cali or Minnesota. Cheaper that way. That's why I would pay Minn sales tax.

3. I do not have Cali emissions on the car I own right now that I brought from Minn. I only had to get it Smog checked after a couple weeks of living here. Why wouldn't be the same for the Mustang?
