Well, it was a beautiful day here this morning in Germany, and my wife wanted to head up to Frankfurt to buy a purse or something. This gets me excited, cuz there is nothing i love more then getting on the autobahn and opening up the 05.

The trip up to Frankfurt is about 65 miles from Heidleberg where i live, so it doesn't take long when you are rolling along at 110mph average speed. I was lucky enough to get one kill on the way up to Frankfurt. A Honda S2000 "thought" he could hang with me, he came rolling up my me rear end and passed me when i was doing about 100mph, and it didn't take long for the stang to catch up and show him what was up. He tried to hang with me for a min, but i pushed her up past the 130mph area, and i guess he didn't want to play any more...

Anyway with the shopping out of the way, it was time for the return trip home, back on the autobahn we go.. We were doing about 125 or and a Volvo comes SCREAMING up behind me, i could seen him comeing since it was just him and I in the far left hand lane. Well since i saw him coming i gently leaned a bit harder on the gas. Well next thing you know doing about 142mph or so and he is STILL on my rear end, so i cont to press. During this whole time, i'm commenting on this Volvo and how he was keeping up with me, then my wife asks me "how fast are you going", just as the governor kicks in, and i said to her... " as fast as it will go baby"........ Well... it breaks my heart to say this, but i then had to move over a lane so the Volvo could pass me, still going max speed, and it was a freaking Volvo V50 wagon......

Here is what it looks like for those that don't know.... yess i got owned by a grocery getter Volvo V50

Now my wife tells me a tear ran down my face as i had to let it pass, but i will not confirm that.

FYI at max speed which is about 148mph or so i was sitting just about 4600 RPMS, with plenty of pull left. With redline at 6k, you do the math... This car IMO easily top 160, now i just gotta find the governor on/off switch....

Hey Jason,

I can't imagine going that fast in the United States. I wouldn't shed too many tears over a volvo passing you. I wouldn't have raced when your wife was with you though.

Sounds like its time for an ECT tuner! You can a few horses and raise the speed limiter.

Well, doesn't Ford own Volvo now? So, you got passed by a 'Ford'.

As a long time Volvo owner, don't discount their speed potential. My 740 5-speed Turbo wagon would go like scoot, and I used to pass a lot of surprised people. One of the reasons I am buying an 05 GT is the Volvo influence on the car.

Good story!

I bet it was the turbo model with a few "tweaks". It's pretty easy to garner a few more horses out of turbo with just a computer tune, similar to what can be done with a Cobra.

Jason-

Cool Story. Of course if it had been a 300hp V70-R Wagon . . .that tear might not have ran down your face.

Well not every country imposes a speed limiter. I'm curious, when did they start to put those in? I never noticed because I never had a brand new car until 2003, prior my newest car was a '89. I wish I had pushed my little civic to it's limit before trading it in, never even bumped the tack off the rev limiter. Ofcourse not much use when it starts to really lug at 100+. The mustang has only seen 110mph and that was accidental, thought I was doing maybe 80.
