Age - yeah I'm sure that Ford considered it. But they obviously got this one right for lots of us from 15 to 55.
Me, I had a lime 66 when I turned 16 in 1976 and that car was loved. Reignited my affair with a new tan 5.0 GT in 1984. Now this WV blue beauty...
My age just deepens my appreciation for the heritage and what the Mustang means to our culture.
I'm really glad to see that those owners who are younger - get it!

This car connects with my soul. I am in the 40+ crowd, and could not believe my eyes when I first saw a picture of the new 05. I was hooked, and getting behind the drivers wheel was my destiny. My kids frequently ask me what my dream car is. With no hesitation .. it is the Mustang. I am fortunate in my life to have been in lots of cars, from old muscle cars to the latest Porches, and none of them connects like the Mustang. There is nothing like it.

I am 47 so I qualify....

Previous Mustangs in order of ownership:

Bought used:65 Coupe, 66 Coupe, 72 Coupe, 74 Mach One,

Bought New:79 Cobra, 79 Pace Car, 81 Cobra, 82 GT.

From 82 on I bought BMW's I now drive a '00 M5 and a '99M3c.

I doubted that I would ever buy anything from Ford again except for trucks.

I wonder if Ford ever thought they would be taking money out of BMW's pocket?

I'm shooting 44 Magnum and let me tell you this car is quickly becoming my obcession. As much as I miss my vert, I don't think there's another car in production today that I'd even consider owning.

I'm 21 and I've been salivating over this car ever since the initial concept sketchings surfaced. But, I love pretty much all Mustangs. Except a certain style that surfaced in the '70s which shall go unnumbered.
I'm with Justin on this one!
(except for the 70's stang remark, :P I love allll mustangs lol)

I seen this mustang when they premired it at the auto show. I was sitting ni a restraunt and see in and litterally stood up and was like WOW. I had to have one. But i never thought it would be something that would happen.

Im only 18, but afte rthat i forgot about it for awhile. Right about the tiem they started taking orders for it i got back interested. There was none in town and my dad drove me up to Raliegh to go see em at Crossroads Ford. I had to have one. THen my parents gave me one for christmas. I was thrilled and still am. My dad loves it also. He is a body man that has owened all kinda of mustangs, vettes, and countless other cars.

This mustang has soemthing no other car on the road has. It has the curves of a highend luxary car, it looks mean like the old muscle cars, a modern feel to it, and enough power to go along wtih the looks.

BTW i can tell it was geared towards the older mustang lovers because its not the people my age who are in love with it. Most of the people i run into are older people especially when im at the gas station who are jsut amzed by the car.

I'm 24 and this is my 3rd Mustang, and I love the bodystyle. I don't think it was designed for the "40 and over" only at all.

Over 40 but feeling like 16...
52 and a woman but feeling like a 16 year old boy.

I used to think teenage boys were 'showing off' with all the speed and noise but now I know, it's just FUN! I surprize myself wanting to go fast, take sharp turns and hear my Stang growl.

I've had lot's of teens give me thumbs up so this design has universal appeal.

im 49 (in 33 years :P ) and i cant not droll about this car. its the greatest thing to happen to the 'stang in a looooong time. dont get me wrong, the Sn95s and the Foxes kicked major booty, but the 05 does it all to a greater extent.

and aside from the 1971 Boss 351, this is the coolest mustang in history

i cant wait till i can freakin afford one

I'm a 1962 model year myself (42)... I've owned 5 Mustangs since I was 24... New - 85' LX (2.3-Manual, dog!), New - 89 LX 5.0 Sport (still have this car), Beater 85 GT- work car, New - 03 GT Vert and now a new 05 GT... I'm a su cker for Mustangs...
I'm a '62 model year, too and I've had 7 of these cars. I was starting to think I would have to buy a 68 fastback and pour the next 10 years worth of overtime into it, but along comes the '05. For me, this car is all I need from a car.... affordable, great looking but not exotic, comfortable as a daily driver (finally), and supported by the aftermarket to the extreme.

I'm 52 this year. When Mustang first debut I was just turning eleven. I have owned two previous mustangs (1) 1984 Mustang LX, (2) 1998 Mustang LX - current mustang. I have been drooling and talking about the 2005 Mustang since I first saw the new concept. Until I saw the new mustang concept I was ready to buy another Taurus. Good job Ford!

42 going on 16. Like everyone else, as soon as I saw the concept I have been obsessed.

There has not been a vehicle since 1970 that I would want until now.
The '05 has gotten the old drool machine cranking though.

45 here next week. I think Ford designed this car for multiple reasons.

1) Yes wanted to capture the 50 and over crowd because of the retro styling from the cars the drove when they were younger in the 60's.
2) Remeber all the cars were more squareish on the front profile until the later 70's or so and then everthing went wedge shape. If your car didn't look like a "<" on the front end it wasn't cool.
3) Now almost everything is wedge shaped so something needed to be designed to reverse this trend. That's all the younger crowd saw on the street looked like a "<" and needed something different to stand out. Thus the appeal to the under 30ish group.
4) People in their 40's are a mix of both. Want the design they were in when their parents were driving with the technology of today. They also want the performance before they feel they are too old to handle it.

Don't flame me. It's just my thoughts.

Im 39 and will be 40 in 4 months

the 05 appealed to me because it reminded me of the 1965-1969 style and I always wanted one as a kid and in high school. When the retro style 05 came out - my dream had come true - I had always wished the auto makers would retro the stang, gto and camaros..
Too bad the GTO wasnt retro

and yes I am obsessed with this car, I havent felt like this about a car since high school days. I started researching getting the car since November 2004. Took me till Feb05 to get it.

Youth loves the car. To a point, I don't mind being young. To another point, I don't want every cop looking at me like I'm a teenager or early 20's kid.

The engineering is ho-hum. Ford did a fantastic job of putting an economical/powerful motor in a nice design, and making the right tradeoffs to make it affordable. (So I'm not saying they were bad tradeoffs). On the other hand, I like 4 valves per cylinder, engine covers, trunk liners, integrated toolkit, heated seats (and mirrors), IRS, AWD, and so on. The little expensive details that I love about the bimmer or on an Audi/Lexus/etc, aren't there. I can get more HP/liter from any of the Euro's or

dke,

you make a lot of good points, so I was selective in what I snipped from your post...

First off, I'm 49, have been driving a 95 GT since 1998, and drove an '87 GT from 1992 to 1998. Hopefully should have the '05 GT this week.

1) What makes you say the cops look at you like a teenager if you drive a Mustang? I honestly don't get that feeling at all. Never have. Only been pulled over once in the last 13 years while driving the red Mustang GTs in fact - got a warning because I didn't realize the headlights weren't on one night in town last summer.

2) What difference does it really make if the car has 4 valves per cylinder or 3? Or 2? It's the execution rather than the technology that counts, isn't it? I drove a 330Ci before ordering the '05 Mustang because I honestly thought I might go a little more upscale this time. Yes, that BMW engine is silky smooth, and has a powerband curve as flat as Kansas, but it's no match for the lower-tech Mustang 4.6 liter, IMO. The Mustang's acceleration is like an event compared to the B's.

Just busted the 39 mark as far as calender years, mentally / physically many years behind. My Father was a Ford man all through my childhood. He would point out all the early model Mustangs to me. He would take me to local Ford dealerships to look at all the cool cars. He had a friend with a black 1968 Mustang GT. That car impacted me like no other. To me it was the most beautiful car in the world.
I have owned two other GTs prior to the '05. One was a burgundy 1983 GT that my Father bought for me new. The other was a black 1987 GT that my Dad and I ordered together, and I was actually purchasing. The sad fact was that the car arrived two weeks after he passed away. I kept the car only 11 months and traded it for an 1988 Jeep Wrangler. I just couldn't keep the car, it was a little to painful.
So ever since 1987, I was out of the Mustang grove until I layed eyes on the 2005 concept car. It lit a flame that reminded me for some reason of my love for the '68 GT. So when the Wife and I were able to order last October, we did and the rest is history. My plates play fun with my love for the '68 reading, "68WANAB".
I love this car with all that it offers, and would like to think that Pops takes a ride with me from time to time..........

I'm 25 goin' on 26 and as soon as I saw the new mustang on tv I knew I had to have it. Everybody in my family over the age of 40 loves my stang and my dad really, really goes nut's over it. As far as I'm concerened, they stopped making good looking cars after about 1973. I really am hooked on all the early muscle cars of the sixty's and early seventies. The only other car that I have that I think looks great is my 1991 Firebird w/t-tops.
