One thing to consider - If I remember correctly, January 2005 is the 40th anniversary of the Shelby Mustang GT350, so we might see something to commemorate the occasion.

I would like to see the Shelby be the Mach/Bullitt level car for 1 or 2 years and then move on to Boss, Cobra Jet or whatever. I like the idea of the Shelby coming first because Shelby is still alive. If I buy one, I will try to have him autograph it.

I know for a fact that -recently- if you donated some $$$ to the Carroll Shelby Heart Fund, he would autograph something of yours (like a console cover, air cleaner cover, etc). He would also make appearances for SAAC (Shelby American Auto Club) meets and do Autographs on whatever you liked. Definitely worth a look into if they make Shelbys again!

trust me, I'll look into it. Honestly, a Shelby is about the only SE that would steer me clear of a Cobra. I really like the Mach 1. It is a nice driving car, but, I want the most powerful. If the Shelby comes, however, I may have to reconsider.

Me, too! I have had a couple of Shelbys before (the most recent was about 2 years ago), and I have a real weak spot for them. They have never been whimp-mobiles, that[B] is for sure!!!
Did anyone notice the picture of the '05 prototype Shelby that was published in this month's "Mustang Monthly?" It was only a single small picture but it looked like the best tuner car I've seen yet for the '05. I DO NOT like the "Elenore" type foglights used on it though.
It has been my experience with large companies like ford that when they have a winner like they do in the new mustang, they are never in a hurry to reveal too much of what they have planned. :stubborn: We will see the convertible for sure. Right now, though, ford can sell every GT it makes and there is no direct competition, so why show your whole hand?
On the other hand, it is the Detroit Auto Show, so you would think they would want to wow us with something. Their job now is to maintain the rabid level of interest that presently exists in the new car. Product cycles are much shorter these days and so are most people's attention spans, so it's possible we will get a peek at what they have planned. At least I hope so.

But if thats the case the SVT Cobra should be called COBRA II as a respectful nod to the second generation cobras. W/ the same decal treatment as farah facets COBRA II from charlies angels.

Sport trac, HD F-150, Mustang convertible, and Fusion are the main show this year for Ford. This year is Lincoln's turn, and another barage of new Ford products(more signifigant then 05 was) for 07 will be the focus of 06.
I would think a possible Vic replacement concept or something with a Hurricane is more likely. The 500 gets a new motor and most likely a facelift next year, but the car is still just getting out to dealers so I wouldnt expect much on that either. Explorer is scheduled for a redo in 06, but I would think Ford would keep that on the down low untill spring. WAY too many to sell right now. POSSIBLY a more finalized Shelby roadster concept(that car is supposed to be getting a facelift).

I agree, it won't be a whimp mobile by any means. Hopefully it will be strong from the factory. I won't mod it with anything I can't reverse.
What kind of shelbys did you have?

Again, sorry for taking this post off-topic..
From an E-mail I rec'd:
Ford spent $5 million developing this car, and another $2 million just building this particular one. This is the first and only one of this type in existance, and was completed yesterday afternoon in California.
In January of 2004 it was sketched out on paper. In February a full size mockup was molded in clay. Now, a year later, the real thing is on it's way to the Detroit Auto Show. This car wasn't a mockup or a shell. The sculptor, designer and escort for the car is hoping it will take best of show this year. And Kitty Hawk delivered it!
This is the 2007 Ford Shelby GR1 concept car. If Ford decides to put it into production, potential buyers can expect to pay around $200,000 for it. The entire exterior of the car is polished aluminum, and it has liquid cooled LED headlights. It was amazing seeing this car up close and talking to the project leader for the studio that built it.
Do not know if true or not

I know it's off topic (yet again): TKO Motorsports is a joint venture by their father (Tom Kirkham) and his two sons, lots of Cobra restorations. His sons founded Kirkham, the Cobra builders/Poland. Great people, very personable, honest, and hard-working!
I did not buy the Shelby from them, but they were more than happy to help me complete my research on the vehicle, and they often called me (or sent me) all the information that they had on the car. It was like talking to friends every time they called, you know? There....NOW YOU DID IT! I'm gettin' all blubbery an' stuff!!

The Shelby was covered by a documentary on TLC (I think or maybe Discovery), but I thought they said that the one in Detroit was only a mock up. It is sweet, but I prefer the Ford GT personnally.
