The Shelby Mustangs were the first Cobra mustangs, I doubt ford would come out with 2 cobras.

SVT Cobra
Shelby GT-500(350)
...Only one Cobra
My guess is you'll see the Shelby GR-1 in a working prototype. Remember, the GR-1 shown in pebble beach didn't have a motor or full interior, it was a non-working concept. Ford will most likely have other prototypes that will never make production like last year's BRONCO.
I'm betting that in the first week of January, Ford will roll something out. Lets think about this for a minute in the big picture, not just from the Mustang aspect.
Five Hundred - out
Ranger - next gen concept?
Explorer Sport Trac - next gen confirmed
F Series - been there done that
Focus - doubt it, maybe only the Vignale concept from Europe
Fusion - for sure, along with all of its counterparts from Merc and Lincoln
Explorer - maybe, but prolly not until 2006
Mustang - the Cobra still is nowhere near ready yet from what i've heard from insiders, and the next SE is not far behind either. I would EXPECT, but not guarantee, some other teaser type from ford using the new Stang as the building block. I'm sure that I'll hear from someone that when they do the world premiere that they'll have 4 or 5 different concepts in their entire product line, including some of the ones from this past year's show. In all honesty, its still too early to tell.

I hate waiting for all of the good stuff to come out! :bang:
A couple issues ago of the SVT Enthusiast magazine (SVT's official thing), I believe it was Tom Scarpello who said the Shelby and SVT editions were definitely NOT the same thing. The SVT will be entirely different from the Shelby.
question is - will the Shelby be a Ford car or made by Shelby as an aftermarket car? If it is Ford, will it be the Mach 1 type SE or a special Cobra. I personally think it should be a Mach 1 type SE. It fits the heritage theme of the other SEs. Shelby probably sees it differently.

But if thats the case the SVT Cobra should be called COBRA II as a respectful nod to the second generation cobras. W/ the same decal treatment as farah facets COBRA II from charlies angels.

Unless things have changed, I was told by a guy at Shelby Automotive (who was quite up front I might add) that Shebly was working solo on a project 05 GT....to upscale limited edition (100-150) Shelby as of August.
My guess was that Shelby was working inside with Ford on a Shelby Mustang because lets face the facts. It was FORD Designers that came up with the new COBRA ROADSTER and the new COUPE GR-1 headed by J MAYS. it was NOT SHELBY AUTOMOTIVE that supplied the ENGINE nor the Design. I think the Shelby Mustang will be an IN HOUSE Car with Shelbys INPUT and SIGNATURE.

Possible. That would mean the guy was telling a "little white one" to me.
Lets wait and see then.Previously I was wondering if the two sides couldn't really come to a deal regarding a Shelby Mustang.....sure they had the GR-1 and Cobra Roadster, but maybe Ford figures they'd rather not pay all those royalties on a mass production car. Or maybe, they want to save the shelby name for later in the run.
Or, we'll see something soon.
I would seriously doubt that royalties would be paid to Shelby either way. These aren't movies or records. I would imagine that Ford would pay Shelby a nice fee up front to use his name for a certain amount of time. Say, 5 years or something like that. This is how these deals have been done in the past.
However, whether the next Shelby Mustang is built by Ford or is a aftermarket tuner car, remains to be seen. Honestly, i would love to see a new Shelby Mustang. But, i don't want a wholesale switch of all SE Mustangs to the Shelby name, like others have speculated.
There are too many great names from the Mustang's past, to just ignore them and build GT350's and GT500's exclusively. I want to eventually see new Mach 1's, Boss's, Bullitt's, and (of course) Cobra's. Would also love to see the words Cobra Jet on a new engine as well.
Oh, and about the Mustang II's, no thanks. The Mustang went through that dark time once, and we don't need any reminders of it now. I know there are fans of those cars, but i am thankful they are few and far between. Sorry.

I would like to see the Shelby be the Mach/Bullitt level car for 1 or 2 years and then move on to Boss, Cobra Jet or whatever. I like the idea of the Shelby coming first because Shelby is still alive. If I buy one, I will try to have him autograph it.
I'll be totally honest. And you can disagree with me all you want and........you might be right. heh. BUt i honestly think Ford could have out 2 or 3 SE models the same year and still sell them just fine. Be nice to have a Shelby, Mach1 and BOSS all in 2006. Wishful thinking??? Yeah probably. But i can dream.
