i'll add this with a vehicle like the 2005 mustang being so important to ford and the autoworld. JOB1 on this car will be when ford officially starts production of the 05 mustang with news and media coverage on sept 7. and with the mustang moving from DAP(where it's been built for 40yrs) to AAI...it should get some good media coverage for it's rebirth if you will.

J1 First day of Full Production of new model. ie. 05 Model
J2 First day of Full production of 05.5 (which from a customer standpoint, is still an 05 vehicle- 05.5 is usually changes customer doesn't visually see. Any changes made can't be visual because a guy buying an 05 mustang one month and then seeing a completely different looking 05 mustang a few months later would be pissed off.

J3 doesn't exist. Usually by that time, it's going to be 06 model year. Running changes happen though throughout the year, which means that minor changes hit production all the time, but nothing significant to be entered in as a J1 or J2 change.

I don't really understand why someone would want a Job 1 Vehicle. J1 means that's the first time plant personnel and line operaters are building brand new model cars over and over, non stop. There's a learning curve to everything people do. With time, the operators will get better and what they do, and so will the vehicle. You're better off getting a vehicle built about 2-3 months after Job 1.

This is NOT correct.

Job 2 cars can contain many visual changes.

At Job 2 release ALL of the following changes have occured in FoMoCo vehicles.

1. Existing Paint colors deleted
2. New Paint colors added.
3. Existing options deleted
4. New options added
5. New option packages added.
6. New model arrays added
7. Standard equipment is deleted
8. New standard equipment is added

Certainly ALL of those potential Job 2 changes are visually apparant to the customer.

As an example, here are the Job 2 changes that occured on the 2003 Model Year Lincoln LS.

- Side Curtain airbags added (optional at additional cost).
- Aspen Green Metallic paint is discontinued
- Vivid Red Metallic paint is again available (optional at additional cost).
- Interior wood trim option now available on V8 Sport models
- Lug Nuts changed to new design.
- Navigation System firmware / software updated to Rev. 3.10 (was 3.00)

A 2nd example is the 2004 Model Year Job 2 changes for the Lincoln LS

- LSE model returns. Adds to V-8 sport array, unique 7 spoke chrome wheels, unique front fascia with round fog lamps body color painted front grille surround, unique rear fascia, tail lamps are all red, front grille, side rocker panels, license plate surround, rear spoiler, unique wood interior trim and LSE floor mats. - available in Silver Birch, Black and Vivid Red only.
- New V6 Appearance Package. It adds the following items to the V6 Luxury model: . . . . Convenience Package, polished 7 spoke wheels, Alpine Audio with 6 CD changer, color keyed bumper trim
- moisture sensitive wipers are deleted from all models.
- V8 Ultimate model chrome wheels are changed, polished finish in-between spokes they were a textured finish.

As you can see may of the changes are visual, while others add or delete functions in the vehicle.

If we see a 2005 Model Year Mustang Special Edition in the Spring of 2005, it would be a Job 2 car. However the situation with the 05 Stang could be confusing as the Convertible launch could be called Job 2 and a SE later in the spring could technically be a Job 3.

I thought Job2 were mid year changes

JOB1 was when the car is officially being produced for that model year.
JOB2 may be later in the year and something may be added etc, or fixed.
ding ding ding!

Sometimes they do not change them. Usually it will be in the order code as well, Expedition in 03 were 400A packages(eddie bauer), switching to 400B packages mid year.(you can tell a 400A because they had black running boards and wired headsets instead of wireless) This year they did not change at all through the year and are ALL 400A's. Job one for all intents and purposes refers to the date of actual retail units begining production each year. Job 2 refers to a change in the line that does not match the original ordering guide.

With the 03 cobra the same thing happened, when colors like mineral grey disappeared and was replaced after only a few months.

Kevin is correct.

J1 is the scheduled date when the plant runs at full planned speed or Run-at-Rate. It is not the first day of saleable units. Car companies typically declare the last round of pre-production vehicles saleable and then they slowly ramp up until they achieve full run-at-rate (ideally at J1 date).

J2 is a date post-J1 for incorporation of running changes. J2 designation is used when the proposed changes affect the Order Guide. If they have to make a change for quality and it doesn't affect the order guide, they will just do it without calling it a J2. If the changes affect the order guide (i.e. introduction or delete of an option - e.g. late intro of 18" wheels), they will declare a J2 and bundle changes together to streamline ordering process. B)
