Is this a decent price for labor?

I'm looking to get my new suspension equipment installed and I was wondering if this seemed like a fair deal. Basically I have a new panhard rod, upper control arm, lower control arms, springs, and shocks that need to go on - plus alignment. I'm being quoted for $675 total including tax. Seems pretty fair to me but what do I know. They are two blocks north of me on Woodward which makes it extremely convenient.

That seems like it might be in line with being correct. I'm basing this on probably a good day's worth of work, at around 75-90 per hour shop rate which is typical, you're right in line.

However, I would say this, the items you're wanting to install aren't incredibly hard to get in with maybe the exception of the upper control arm. If you have a weekend coming up, put the car on jack-stands, review some of the how-to's on the site and go to town.

Then, maybe have the shop to the upper control arm. You'll save quite a bit of money.

I would do it myself except I live in a condo and have limited tools. I thought the rate seemed fair. I'll probably have them do it since they're experienced in this type of work and can do it on a Saturday afternoon

panhard bar takes about 15 minutes to install. LCa take about 20 minutes or so. The springs struts and shocks around 3 hours and the uca probably about an hour, about half that with a good inpact gun.
I think the 675 is a little high. I would shop around a bit more.

That's a pretty high shop rate they have. Over $100.00 per hour, they better have a top notch facility with highly paid individuals.

My assessment of the price being about right assumed 8-9 hours worth of work. Basically a full day. If they're quoting you $675 for 6.5 hours, that's a bit much.

They may quote differently than we do, but we take the time called for and quote by that. Go check out the manufacturer sites from all your parts, add the time together and see if it comes to those 6.5 hours they quoted you. If they're quoting you for 100% of their time, I would say they're overcharging.

it was 90hr for labor. To install the parts it was 585.00 + tax + 79 for the alignment. Steeda's website says 8hrs to install all my parts.

I still think the shop rate is a bit high considering the work being done. HOWEVER that may be in line with prices in your area.

The key here however is if you're okay with the price. If the price is good with you, go for it!

this is true, they look like a reputable shop though http://www.streetlegalcustoms.com/. I did get a message from a friend saying he knows a guy who does good work for cheap, might go that route. Thanks for the feedback!

There are a couple other shops in the Metro area that you could call that do a lot of work on Mustangs. You could give them a call to get a quote to compare.

MRT - They are in Plymouth, but are open on Saturdays. I've had them do some work on my Mustang and have been happy so far. www.mrt-direct.com
Alternative Auto - They are in Chesterfield Twp. I haven't been out there yet, but have heard good things. www.alternativeauto.com

Just a couple more options if you want to shop around.

I just sent an email off to MRT - didn't see one for alternative auto. Thanks for the heads up!

No problem. You might want to try to give them a call though, as they are generally pretty busy on Saturdays, so not sure how quick they'll be able to get through emails.

Wow. MRT is an absolute joke. They wanted $872 without an alignment. They quoted 8 hours of work. 109/HR!
