Here in Longview, a dealership may give you a license plate frame with their dealership name on it (hoping you might use it)......but they never-ever put their tag/decal or whatever right on the damned paint! I don't buy any car (expensive or inexpensive) to advertise for the place I bought it......if they want advertising, then they should pay for it. I don't mind the plate frame, and I do use it.......but when it comes to the advertising being right on the paint job of the car, that's where I draw the line. Just an issue I have, since my current vehicle was purchased in Knoxville, TN.....and guess what I have stuck on my paint? 'nuff said

I'm with ya. Calling my salesman tomorrow to reiterate instructions to not put anything on the vehicle. No front plate, no glued on plug for the dealership.

If its just a decal, it comes off really easily.

I agree.

:bang: I do believe there once was a thread, maybe before the crash, that gave pointers on removing these decals without hurting the paint. :bang:

What is it, a sticker or an emblem? If it's a sticker, get a hairdryer, warm it up and peel it off. Any remaining residue can be removed with a small amount of gasoline on a rag, etc. If it's an emblem, get some waxed dental floss. Heat up the emblem, slide the floss up and down slowly, applying pressure to the emblem, not your paint, and wallah. It's off, clean up the residue. It irritates the crap out of me too.

That sounds like some MacGuyver stuff right there.

I could always get out the duct tape and try and pull it off, then when I'm done get some old bubble gum and stick it back on!

Not always.
Some are emblems and even worse some are the transfer type that would almost have to be scraped off.
Mine's coming straight to me from the factory / rail yard/ wherever the car hauler truck picks it up from.
And you can be sure I won't be putting one on there myself.
In fact that was the second thing I changed on my current Stang.
I stopped on the way home from the dealer and picked up a set of BLACK valve stem caps to replace the factory blue/grey ones.

I've got a better idea yet: B) If you go to pick up your car, and it's on there.......then make them remove it. That way if the paint gets screwed up in any way, then it's on their shoulders....not yours! Of course giving them specific instructions about this prior to the car being delivered, is even better yet. This is what I did...... Why is it that the license plate frame advertising isn't good enough....because I know when I lived in the South, they not only put the plate frame advertising (2 of them), which was okay by me......they also had to top it off with an emblem or decal?

My dealer puts those darn clear stickers on the back. I'm gonna make sure they dont. Whoever had my current car before me .. my little Escort, peeled the sticker off very badly and left residue on it that I could only get off with a razor VERY carefully. Still, it wasnt pretty.

I'll make a point of putting it in the sales contract that there are no badges on the car.

I read somewhere that if you tell your dealer/salesperson that you are a semiprofessional driver that unless they pay, you are unable to drive the car with their logo. never tried it but sounds like a good excuse

Heat it with a hairdryer on high heat and use a new plastic spreader to start lifting one edge. Keep the dryer on as you continue releaseing the emblem. That should work just fine.

Kevin,

Grew up in Clatskanie. Will be bringing my 'stang by in Feb. to show my mom. On my way up to Sonohmish to get it custom painted.

I called my dealer here in California and told them specifically not to put any badge on my car, with the exception of the rear lisence plate frame. I told them not even to drill out the dimples on my front bumper.

I have removed a zillon stickers.

Mineral Spirits (or white gas or Coleman stove fuel) will remove any residue that tries to say and it won't hurt the paint at all.

Wow....custom paint on the new Stang? The GF and I were in Clatskanie last night for dinner @ Fultano's Pizza Parlor.....and of course an ice cold brewski too. Only 2 though.....those Oregon cops are tough!

I watched them remove the badge and stopped the drilling of my front bumper. I echo your sentiments entirely. I think it trashes the look of the car to be adverstising a dealership.
