I went to the dealership last Saturday in hope of finding a good looking black or refire v6 under 18k. When I got there and started price hunter, I couldn't find a single v6 for under 24k and a single GT for under 29k. Why do they markup something higher that the Ford MSRP. I could go to Ford.com and get a GT fully loaded delievered to my house for under 29k and they were asking 29 for a base GT.

The convert GT was for 32k. and they had about 4 of them on the lot... WONDER WHY!

The best one I saw, was a base v6, with a few cosmetic mods on it for 21k.

I even found myself asking them how much is that used yellow (eck) v6 in front. They said it has 22k miles on and they want 22k for it. I said sorry, and left, and drove 15 miles to the next dealership, and found the same thing...

I've wanted an 05 Stang since March of 04, now that the wife finially approved (since she test drove it) I still can't find one I can afford. THIS IS COMPLETE B.S.!

I was calling dealerships a few weeks ago trying to see if anyone would take the X-Plan I talked to one that said "not only do we not accept the X-Plan for the Mustang, but for the convertible we run $5,000 over MSRP. Nobody will take the X-Plan on the Mustang."

That certainly explained why they had a used '05 convertible for $38,999.

So I just kept checking around until I found one, and I did...

Wow reading this I don't feel so bad finding a dealer to take X-Plan on a new order on my fifth attempt. I would also try asking to speak to the sales manager or having the salesman double check with the sales manager when asking about X-Plan. I had one guy tell me they didn't accept X-Plan, after being told they did two days before. I then had them put me on with the salesman I had talked to before, and he then put me on hold while he confirmed it with the sales manager. Half the sales guys you'll talk to don't know what they're talking about.

It's also worth noting that the dealership I went to would only take X-Plan on a new order and not on a car already on the lot (not that that was a problem as I wanted a GT and they only had 6s on the lot).

Even if you found a BASE Mustang with s stick and no other options, the price would be $19,810 MSRP and I doubt any dealer would order a Mustang with ZERO options. If you had an x-plan pin then you could concevably get close to $18,000 provided the dealer was willing to sell at x-plan.

NBC news last night said in the Mustang story that 1 out of 3 sports cars sold in America today is a Mustang!

Prices reflect supply and demand.

If you want a lower price you should order one and wait for delivery. Don't expect a low price for one sitting in a dealer lot.

My beleif is you should NEVER have to pay more than $500 over invoice for any vehicle.

you mentioned that a GT vert was 32000; now i dont believe you can get one much cheaper than that at sticker and there is no dealer markup; i know cause i own one; if you are talking about over msrp on the other cars i agree with you; but look closer; are you sure you are talking markups over sticker?

I found 5 in Central Texas (including San Antonio) willing to take the X-Plan, just none actually in Austin.

Ended up ordering in Rockdale.

I am getting an 06 gt, in PHILADELPHIA, which is rediculous with car prices, for MSRP. To make the deal even sweeter, they are installing LowJack for free, painting it like the steeda car for free, and fixing any paint problem for the life of the car... the paint peels or a rock chips it??? doesnt matter, its getting fixed... i think that is just as good if not better then getting it for invoice...

You better be VERY carfull with any dealer claiming to offer X plan on the GT. A lot of them take your money with no written price ageement and you are asked to pay more when it comes in or they will sell it to someone else.

I WOULD NOT order a GT on X plan without a written contract signed by the manager agreeing to sell it at that price with no additional markups....

I have seen way to many people caught in this one...

I would and have ordered GT's for TMS members at x-plan pricing. I have the authority and am doing it as a perk for members, plus I am donating to support this website. There are several dealers on this site that stand by their word.

I was back from Korea on leave in the Sacramento area last month. I'm ordering a Mustang GT through military car sales and I wanted to compare prices. I was in the Roseville area and stopped by a local dealer. They had one Mustang GT for sale on the lot and numerous V6s. My wife and I walked over to the car and I just about fell over. There was a 10,000 markup on the GT. The salesman came over and explained to me how that was a fair market value price. I told him to not even bother giving me a card and I hope he can beat his crack addiction. The sad thing is someone will buy the car even though it was $40,000.

I just finished my order through military car sales and the final cost (+tax/lic):
$26,750. Thats a fully loaded Mustang GT with everything except Shaker 1000

I think I'm getting a better deal! I guess cars like everything else in California are overprices as well.
