Dealer Joy Rides

Just curious if anyone knows how many miles or tenths are put on the car as it rolls out of the factory? My car comes in any day now, and I'm working so won't be able to pick it up till late. I have visions of the Ferris Bueller's Day Off car attendants now working at the Ford Dealership and taking my new baby for a wild ride or worse yet, letting customers in my baby to test drive it before I get there.
Call me paranoid but I've been screwed over at just about every turn with this group and I wouldn't put it past them to do this since they have no GT's otherwise on the lot for people to test drive.

I'm not sure how many miles there SHOULD be on a car straight from the factory, but I know that mine had 12 on it when I got it. I didn't make a stink about it, but I couldn't help but think to myself that 12 miles is a lot. I think someone had some fun in my car before I got it. I knew there would be SOME miles on it just from driving it on and off ramps and trucks as well as driving it around the dealer lot to get it preped, but 12?!!?! Oh well, could be worse

They will all be different. Anytime one is singled out for factory testing it will have a sticker on window attesting to the extras miles at the factory.
There was 2.6 on ours, we took it for a test drive = 8.4 and it had 9.2 when we picked it up the next evening.

Here is the deal.
Call your sales guy and tell him that when you pick the car up it should not have more than 2- 5 miles. Thats well enough for them to test drive to make sure all is good shape. Let him know that you dont wont anyone in it and that you will not take it if there is more than 5 miles on it. In addition most importantly, due a full inspection before you sign the 1st paper!!! Trust me on this one!!! Be firm. You must!!

I remember when the Mustangs were first being delievered one of the members got theirs with a love note from Ford. It read something to the effect that your car was chosen for a more detailed testing process and they noted how many miles the car had at the conclusion of the testing process. I believe it was about 25.
Personally anything over 5 I'll wonder about... If it exceeds 10 I'll be vocal. I know I can drive the length of Vancouver inside 10 miles almost.

16 on mine. I'm glad they checked it out. It was a 70 mile drive home and I didn't want any surprises.
What is everone so uptight about The car has a rev limiter. I hit it on my first drive.

Had 55 on mine, and it was the first one at the dealership. I am quite confident everyone at the dealer took a turn driving it, and I really don't care - unless it's wrecked you can't hurt anything. I would not want a car that could not survive a porter or a salesman. If I was buying a Ford GT it might be a different story...
