It was raining pretty hard here in Southern Pennsylvania. I was at a little shopping village ready to go home. I backed up having a little bit of a hard time to see. I got out of the spot okay and as I was make a left turn to exit the ramp I hear a loud BOOOOM! I was like oh sh*t . I opened the door to realize that I had clipped one of the stupid high curbs that separate the entrance and exit ways to this village. I looked down to see my rocker panel hanging (for those who don't know, it is the plastic trim underneath the door colored on Gt's black on V6's) ! I pulled her in the driveway since my home wasn't too far away to asses the damage. Sure enough I now have a huge scrape and a little hole on the bottom of it. I pushed some of the clips back in but a vast majority of them were broken. this stinks big time. I've only had my car for 1 month and if they didn't make those darn curbs to high it wouldn't have mattered !!

Matt

P.s. I'll try to post some pics when I get a chance.

Matt,

Don't let it get ya sick. Its not worth it. The car I just traded in had door dings scrapes on the bumpers a small dent in the back and I was at peace. In fact I almost did not want to get the Mustang for fear of damage to it. I was liking not having to worry about where to park and be extra careful. I am sure you could get it fixed but its just going to one of the few along the way. Unfortunately the only way to prevent things like that is to not drive it. Now that wouldn't be to fun would it. I know its very frustrating and I am dreading my first whatever it is but its only metal and plastic and can always be fixed. BTW I had a ford probe that I busted up the rocker panel on a curb and fixed it myself. I used a bondo like formula and metalic spray paint. Bizzarly it came out beyond my expectations. If its not that bad do it yourself...

For whats its worth,
Have a good one!

They are not painted on the V6, I guess that is some advantage. See? We V6 owners DO have something going for us!

That's right and next time there is another one of those stupid GT vs. v6 debates you can throw it at them.

that really stinks Matt, and I feel your pain. However, looking at it optomistically, it could be a lot worse. For starters, it's way down low, so it's not all that visible in the first place (compared to if someone had rammed into your rear quarter panel for instance). So I'm sure when the part is replaced and painted, no one besides you will know the difference.

The worst thing is that it's going to cost you the $550.

If that happened to mine, I'd be ticked off for sure, but like I said, I'd be a lot more ticked off if the body had been crunched and it needed to get the whole rear side of the car painted. That is almost always noticeable, with bits of overspray on the rubber trim, etc...

Your collision will cover it but you probably have a $500 deductable anyway. It's not worth your insurance going up for that. Pay the 550

Yes you def want to make a mental note of curbs, I know will everytime I see one. I'm just going to pay for it out of pocket. No sense in getting my insurance involved when it just becomes a hassle. I'm and about the whole thing because it was stupidity partially, but I couldn't see because of the rain. Oh well, as some said it, "It could be A LOT WORSE"

I'm not trying to minimize your loss, but it sounds like damage to a bolt on part low on the car that won't show up as bad as a repainted fender or quarter panel. I too have a fear of getting a new Mustang, only to have a rock take out the hood or windshield. That is the only thing nice about having a 3-year old car. I take care of my cars, but if I hear a rock hit the windshield or back into something (like a plastic garbage) can, I don't get as upset as I would it it was a month old.

Good luck on getting it repaired!
