I had an F-150 with the 4.6 and currently have a 2001 F-150 with the 5.4, both of these engines sound quite and smooth at idle. My '05 Mustang GT although really smooth at idle has had a faint tappet type noise since new at idle. I was just wondering if this was normal with this newly designed engine or not?? Are you guys hearing the same thing? Maybe I am just listenening too close or being super sensitve about every little noise??

I listened to the one I didn't take delivery of yesterday before I drove it. I always do this with new cars, since I've had a few make ticking noises that weren't normal when new. I definaley heard the injectors ticking and some minor valve train noise, but nothing out of the ordinary. I could see how this could be mistaken for a problem.

Injectors. But, check your oil level anyways. Don't ever assume the Dealer (or manufacturer) fills to the correct level.

Are they still using a break in oil? Wouldn't it be too soon to change your oil? I would assume your nice new oil is going to be full of metal filings soon, or at least the oil filter will be. I won't change mine until at least 1,000 miles.

I thought the same thing about checking the oil level.....that ticking sound was another reason I changed my oil already to straight Synthetic....but I guess it was just the normal noises I was hearing.

I had 1,100 miles on the car when I changed the oil....I wouldn't have done it any sooner.
