Thumbs up

I had an F-150 with the 4.6 and currently have a 2001 F-150 with the 5.4, both of these engines sound quite and smooth at idle. My '05 Mustang GT although really smooth at idle has had a faint tappet type noise since new at idle. I was just wondering if this was normal with this newly designed engine or not?? Are you guys hearing the same thing? Maybe I am just listenening too close or being super sensitve about every little noise??

Mike

One of two things that might cause that noise.
#1 low oil level
#2 bad gas try switching gas stations

Thats the quickest things to check.

Mine's doing the same, its just the valve train working. Its the nature of the beast.

Same thing here.....I would say it is a "Normal" noise.

If it's a ticking noise that you are hearing it could be fuel injectors, not the valves or lifters.

Nothing to worry about. My old man's Z28 makes the same noise. So does my 05...

Same idle quality here. I wouldn't call them ticking noises, but that's the relative quality of the sound we're all hearing.

I listened to the one I didn't take delivery of yesterday before I drove it. I always do this with new cars, since I've had a few make ticking noises that weren't normal when new. I definaley heard the injectors ticking and some minor valve train noise, but nothing out of the ordinary. I could see how this could be mistaken for a problem.

Injectors. But, check your oil level anyways. Don't ever assume the Dealer (or manufacturer) fills to the correct level.

I thought the same thing about checking the oil level.....that ticking sound was another reason I changed my oil already to straight Synthetic....but I guess it was just the normal noises I was hearing.

Are they still using a break in oil? Wouldn't it be too soon to change your oil? I would assume your nice new oil is going to be full of metal filings soon, or at least the oil filter will be. I won't change mine until at least 1,000 miles.

I had 1,100 miles on the car when I changed the oil....I wouldn't have done it any sooner.
