There's not an interior trunk release? Man, how the bean counters' efforts show in the most unexpected places. What could a trunk release button cost? $.02? heck, my 76 lincoln has one, and so does my cheapo company Tortoise (Taurus).
Someone please tell me this isn't true!

I would kinda like to see ford offer a real basic mustang that would be one of the least expensive yet nicest looking cars around.
-2.3L I4 (from 05 focus)
-5 speed manual transmission (optional 4 speed auto)
-front disc rear drum brakes
-basic steel wheels
-no rear wing
-hand crank windows and manual door locks.
-manual mirrors
-basic dash, but two tone to break up all black look (no chrome accents)
-no tachometer
-no tilt or speed control
-basic cloth interior (no horse or mustang writing on seats)
-no vanity mirrors
-basic stereo
-no Iup or my color
-no floor mats
-no handling package (abs only option)
-basic glass (no solar tinting)
-side airbag option
*now to get away with the focus 2.3L they might need to find more weight to remove as the basic mustang V6 is about 500lb heavier, but with the smaller V4 and removed options above, finding the extra weight to remove might not be to hard.
so why? well we would have same as basic toyota corolla/honda civic yet with the killer styling of the mustang...might be great seller with students and first time car buyers?

A couple of nickle and dime items off the top of my head (in addition to the interior trunk release):
1- Locking fuel door with interior release button.
2- Lights that come on when you open up the mirror on the inside of the visors.

Hey Jason ~ Yep there is no interior trunk release. At least if there is it's too well hidden to have been found yet. There have been previous threads discussing this very issue. It doesn't bother me since I never use mine anyway, but alot of people were alittle ticked that it was left out of the 05's. To each their own I guess.
Anyway. Cheersmates.

Yeah, what's up with that, anyway? Who wants to buy a locking gas cap and carry another key? My 20-year-old Toyota had a locking fuel door with interior release button!!
Stupid.

I really hate what that fuel door does to the look of the car. I know it sounds minor but whenever I look at that side of the car my eyes go right to that and I think "that's so basic, what else did they cheap out on"?

I already cut the strap that holds the gas cap onto the car. That this pi$$es me off. Who wants a gas camp hanging down onto the paint of the car scratching it everytime you get gas. Not me, that's for sure.

I remember reading a post from another member putting heated seats in there 2005, installed by dealer for around $400.00.

As far as my wishlist:
1. Pony center caps on the 17" machined wheels.
2. Visors with sliding extensions on them. I pull my seat back far enough that the sun sneaks past the visor when it is shining thru the side window.
3. A seat that reclines back to the orignial position after you pull it forward to access the back seat. (I don't care if it hits their knees - I never had a problem with that before).

Could be wrong but I think they may have meant interior trunk release.
For me it would be: heated seats, remoste start, seat memory, remoste window down an ALL models, IUP w. MY Color
, embordered floormats (like the 40th) & seats (like my 03), more color choices (both interior & exterior), a cd player that isn't possessed, & , &, &, &, &, & I can't think of anything else. Maybe later I will but right now that's all I've got.

I don't understand what the big deal is about an interior trunk release button, I have had my Grand Prix for 3 years and have never used it, I always use my key fob. I definitely don't miss it on my Mustang.

Some of your suggestions seem very reasonable and would make the mustang more appealing to a wider variety of prospective buyers. Many people don't race their rides but like to have a cool ,capable car that has the same creature comforts of the european and asian sporty cars.Think Ford will go for any of these soon?

If I could dream a bit I would like the Mustang to be built 100% in USA. They did it in the 60's why not now?

The German engine (V6) and French Trany (all) would not have lower labor cost than American labor. There are many factors why my dream of 100% built in America is here in 2005, but labor is not one of them. Ford is an internationl company they looked in there part bin and this was there best match. I can not judge if this is a good thing or not, I just know my dream would be 100% U.S.A.
It would be cool for the Mustang.
