Courtesy Delivery?
Hey everyone! Here's the deal. The dealer I'm purchasing my '05 from is in Texas and I live in California. He is having the car shipped to me via a local dealer using what's called a "courtesy delivery". The cost is @ $350.00 for the service and I will actually pay the California dealer the price that I agreed upon with my Texas dealer (@$500 over invoice). He assures me that there's no problem with this and they do it all the time but I can't help feeling a little nervous about it. What if the California dealer tries to charge me more than our agreed price? What if the car is damaged in transit? See what I mean about concerns? Any help/advice would be appreciated - especially from "The Insiders".
id say that as for the price changin on yah i doubt that will happen because once its agreed to a price its is agreed that cant be changed unless u agree for the change... damage-wise now thats a whole nother story. but i doubt it will get damaged.

Wouldn't it be easier to just go to your california dealer and get them to sell it to you at $700 over invoice?
Think about it.. you are getting it for $500 over invoice + $350 shipping & handling = $850. Any deal you can find locally for less is better.

I did it with my jeep. It was a little annoying to get the paper work from the selling dealer. I fedex'd a check to the selling dealer, but it took 3 weeks to get the title and bill of sale. They were not supposed to title it. I was supposed to get the MSO (the thing that is used to get the vehicles first title). Since they titled it I had to pay the a little extra to get the title switched and state farm had to "inspect" the jeep, since they didn't see it as a new car. My title does say I am the first owner. There was no problem picking up the jeep at all. Basically the courtesy dealer took the plastic off the seats and washed it. They didnt do any paper work at all. I think I paid $150 instead of $350. It was bit of a pain. It probably cost me $200 more than it was supposed to smooth out the long distance problems and fix the title issue. I would do it again, if the price was right. Just expect to spend a bunch of time on the phone trying to get the selling dealer to do their jobs. I think it is an "outta sight, outta mind" thing.
Reminds me of that movie with Dana Carvey and Richard Pryor.I think it was called "Moving". It's where Richard Pryor is moving cross country and pays Dana Carvey to drive his Saab cross country. Carvey has multiple personality disorder in the movie and by the time the Saab gets to it's destination it looks like a destroyed dune-buggy.Hilarious movie!! Sorry...back to topic, lol
why not just go to the cali dealer, tell them you have the deal going at $500 over. Tell them you want to avoid the $350 and hassles. Tell them if they match the $500, you will buy it from them. No extra transport damage, no extra cost, no extra hassles, established relationship with the local dealer that will be servicing the vehicle. If you then have trouble with the car, they will be more likely to be more helpful. The people in texas could care less about your service experience.
Option #2 - fly to Texas with the $350 and drive home.

Have you're dealer call you as soon as you get a scheduled delivery date.
Buy a Southwest Airlines ticket for $99-199.
Drive your car back. Paying near $100 in gas.
With a 6 disc MP3 player-you'll never here the same song twice and it'll give you two days to get to know your new car. [/b][/quote]
isn't that the same as option 2?

Here's a third option:

sorry, didn't see that line.
It was a long time ago, but I ordered a 1970 SS350 Camaro from a dealer in Washington DC. While I was waiting, there was a union strike in the plant and I got transferred to Oklahoma, so they just had the car shipped to a dealer there. Everything was fine. Both dealerships were great.
Me, I'd go for the option of picking up the car in Texas and driving it home.
Where in CA are you? Have you checked with the DMV about bringing in a car from out of state?
Seems to me that if you ordered the car you could have it shipped from the factory to your nearest dealer and save the $350. Am I missing something?

Are they shipping the car, or is somebody driving it?

Wow, I didn't think there would be so many replies. Here's the deal. I tried Galpin and the salesman there would not budge on MSRP price. The Texas dealer is a friend of the family and I'd prefer to give him the business. The car will be shipped directly from the factory therefore avoiding any fees for bringing the car into Cali. I was mostly concerned about the dealer who receives the car holding it hostage for more money but if the price is in writing as someone here stated it should be cool. Driving the car 1500 miles across the desert sure sounds nice though and I would do it but I'm tied to a deadline on a project that once again will not budge. I'll have to consider a few suggested options here though. Thanks my Peeps.
