I find the best way to convince your spouse is to marry someone whose father is a 31-year Ford employee. 
He's on his 7th Mustang. Luckily, my wife takes after him. Plus, there's the added bonus that the new Mustang is finally motivating her to learn how to drive a stick. So that'll be nice for long drives.
