I took delivery of a V6 Convertible today.

I really like it. However, I went to put the top down, I stopped it after it traveled about an inch or two (To fold the latch handles flat). Now it won't move at all, not down or up. Its stuck.

I can hear a relay clicking sound where I normally heard the motor, but that's it. Luckly I was near home and can put it in the garage.

Anyone see this yet? and fuses or breakers or sensors or something that need to be reset, etc?

Thanks.

On my '92, if you let it sit for a bit, the hydraulic pressure will drop and you can move the top by hand (to latch). Again on my '92, there is a thermal breaker in the circuit that trips if you force the motor. It resets itself after about 5~10 mins.
I would suspect that something is binding or sticking on yours, so latch it and bring it back to the dealer.
Good luck.

I have an 2005 Vert GT and my top did the exact same thing. I took it to the dealer and they have no idea whats wrong with it. The answer they gave me is.....the car is to new and they have no other information to go by to fix it. Their service manual does not match up with whats on the car(wiring and parts location). So as of right now my vert top has not worked for 3 weeks. Parts they did order are on a 4 week backorder.

Ok. Have to run to the parts store. The 40 AMP fuse was blown.

what you have to ask yourself is what caused it to blow a 40 amp fuse?

Sounds like a short in either the motor or the wiring going to it.

Well, got some more fuses. One blew right away. So I took out the back seat. The motor/pump is right in the middle of the car behind the back seat. Wiring to the motor checks out fine without any shorts. Looks like the motor is bad.

Oh well back to the dealer next week.

wow, that stinks, I'm sure there will be a TSB on this, just give it time. As for now though you're SOL, that's ridiculous though.

TSB? Doesn't something have to happen more that one time to one guy before a TSB is issued? I might have missed it, but this is the first post I've seen yet about a stuck top.

Where is the 40 amp fuse....'in the car' or under the hood some place. How do you take out the back seat?

There might be something in the mechanism restricting the movement of the top. Can you move the top freely by hand without any binding or undue resistance? Might be worth a try.

The 40 AMP fuse in under the hood in the power distribution box. Its fuse 13.

I'm not an expert. My brother who is a certified mechanic removed it. Your mileage may vary, and I'm not responsible for you damaging your stang. Here's what we did:

To take out the back seat, take out the bottom first, its snapped in at two points at the front about 6 inches inset from either side. After you remove the bottom part, you can see two 14mm bolts that anchor the back on either side, remove these, and you can lift the back off its upper hooks. On the convertible, there is a channel hook that runs the length of the back seat. This hook is attached to the cover that cover the well (where the top lays when it is down).

Well the part can't be found at any dealer on the east coast or at any of the east coast depots. Looks like it has to be ordered from the factory.

Looks like a long wait to be topless.

You said "I went to put the top down, I stopped it after it traveled about an inch or two ". Is that a typo? You stopped it or, it stopped?

That's correct. I stopped it. Like I said, to fold the latch handles flat. Otherwise, they tend to get in the way of the top folding flat into the well behind the rear seat. Perhaps the start and stop was the issue

I have always left my handles down and haven't noticed any problems with it folding. I'll have to take a look at exactly what's happening with the handles when the top is folded.

so did you stop it with the button???? Maybe stopping it once it has already started is not a good idea.

I used to do this with my '99 vert all the time. It was a habit to open it a little bit, fold the latches in, and then open it the rest of the way. I hope this isn't an issue with my '05. It hasn't arrived yet, so I haven't had a chance to try it. I guess I'll have to get used to not stopping and folding the latches in as long as they don't cause a problem when the top is down. I thought the dealer or maybe someone else told me to do it that way with the '99 so that it didn't damage the top.
