Convertible "Ripping" Noise

Of course I am out of warranty...and yes...I have searched for the tiny tears that people have referred to...so far, my fabric top is performing perfectly....except...

Sometimes when I am driving along....I hear this, "sssssrrrrrpt!" noise in the top. I think it is simply where the vinyl inter-liner is sticking to the fabric on the outside...and when I pick up speed it starts vibrating...and then seperates the two.

But I was just wondering if anyone else with a vert has experienced this?

That is one that I (thankfully) have not heard.

Ripping noises and convertible tops tend to make me feel anxious.

I've heard so many things with the top up that I've just started ignoring it and turning the radio up.

Why would you be out of warranty?? It's an '07 that you've owned since 8/11/06.

He's got one of those jobs where he is putting mega miles on the ride, I'd wager.

Mega miles

Yep...Atlanta...gotta love it. 100 mile roundtrip commute every day that takes about 3 hours.

For those math lovers out there..that is driving 100 miles at an average of 33 mph.

In reality...part of that is driving incredibly slow...and the other part is driving ridiculously fast!

Is your noise a "ripping" or a "hissing" noise?

My 2002 Vert used to "hiss" from the top (above the passenger A pillar) where it met the header when I drove at speeds over 80mph. It was an air leak due to the way the top was fitted. A dealer adjustment and the car didn't hiss anymore.

Could that be your problem?

Sorry Keeper. I would have never guessed an '07 with more than 36,000 miles. At least you're enjoying it and that what these cars are all about.

Talk about the situation with the service manager. There's been instances where the dealer or Ford will do a goodwill warranty repair, even if the mileage happens to be over. You can explain that the top problem should not happen on a car that's 18 months old. Even with your long commute, you could argue with them that the top is not put up or down any more than another Mustang owner that only lives two miles from work. The worst they can say is no.

And there is the rub...

The sound is not constant...it is like you hit a speed and the top un-sticks with a soft ssssstch! sound. Once...and then nothing else.

The occurance is not even repeatable..it just happens every few days at random occurances.

Not really anything I can point out to a dealer....especially since I don't want those incompetent monkeys touching my baby anyway.

And Atlanta crime...I am OTP (outside the perimeter)...I live (and work) in the suburbs where the trains don't go....so it is not that bad. I just keep my self out of the south side and everything is golden.

Of course, I also live in Kennesaw..where it is a law that every homeowner must own a gun...I don't lie...look it up online.
