I looked at this car last night. It is GORGEOUS! :worship:

But - it is an automatic. After having driven the Legend Lime GT with the 5 speed manual last week, I just don't know if I want to go with the auto?

This car has everything - IUP, Leather, Premium, Shaker 1000, Side Airbags, Auto, etc. and I can get it X-plan for around 28k. It stickers for ~$29,940.

Do you that have the automatic regret buying the auto and wish you would have waited for a manual?

For me it's the other way around. I thought I wouldn't mind having a stick in my Cobra, but I do. Automatics rule! But don't forget this is totally personal

Steve, I'd say it all depends on your driving. I prefer sticks, but living in Atlanta has convinced me I'll be happier long-term with an auto. Some on this board will try to tell you it's not a "real" mustang with an auto though, don't believe them.

X-plan should be around $26,634 on a $28,950 car before adding tax. Nice car though

If the Stang is your toy & or you want to do some open track days get the manual.

Daily driver with moderate to heavy traffic & or drag race occasional get the Auto.

You need to also see the Bullitt's, they look much better on the car. IMO

I prefer the automatic and have never regretted getting one in place of a 5 or 6 speed. Also, you said the car listed at 28950 and X-plan was around 28000. X-plan on this car is more than $1000 less than that price.

Hmm... perhaps the dealer is 'stretching' the X-plan price? He quoted me 28,300 but that also included their "Paint and Fabric Protection" of about six hundred dollars. I told him I didn't want it and wasn't paying for it and he then said he would check with his manager today (not on last night) to 'see what we can do'.

I think that this 'protection package' is just additional markup but I can't prove it. He did not show me the actual Ford Invoice that shows MSRP, Invoice, Xplan, etc on it so I can't be sure. All I know is what he wrote on the paper. I'll check into it more this afternoon.

The auto is definitely nice with nice, crisp shifts. However, I never romped it hard or accelerated hard either. Still, it was a very nice shifting automatic; not slushy or indiscernable.

Thanks for the replies. Here's another pic of the car:

He's pulling your leg on the Xplan price. It should be low $26,000 area

$600 For paint and fabric protection? what does he think they are a honda dealer?

I think the auto will end up being the faster car.

Perhaps faster in a straight line with two amateur drivers...

Remember, there is more parasitic loss with an auto...

Oh, and Jason, I am one of those people who will say that an auto. Stang is not a "real" Mustang, but now with this new 5 speed auto. I'm not sure I can say that anymore.

Feel free to disagree, but the old ones had crappy auto. tranny in them. I should know, I've owned three autos and five manuals.

Yes the old auto was a dog. The new one is light years ahead in responsiveness.

As far as the xPlan price he's not that far off really. Check my sig, add in the cost of the upgraded wheels, and that's what it is.

Actually, wait a minute, what's this one missing? MSRP on mine is over 29k...no IUP?

Newman, my point is that most of us have to make compromises in our vehicles, and that if you live in a heavy traffic area, an auto in a Stang is not a bad compromise to make. I prefer sticks, and would love to get one in the Stang, but I can't justify it. This is for me personally, YMMV, and that's what the stick only crowd needs to keep in mind, everyone's situation is different.

I've driven the a/t and it's a quick pony. I believe you will prolly be happy with the manual or the a/t. As long as you can buy it right, it's a personal thing.

Well, I don't think it's missing anything really. The factory MSRP is $29,940 but that did not include the supposed $600 "Protection Package" (which is a TOTAL WASTE) that is dealer added.

The car has the 5 speed auto (44L), 235/55/ZR17's (T4B), Shaker 1000 (918), Active Anti-Theft (14A), 60 Amp Battery and Heat Shield, Interior Upgrade Package (18G), Rear Decklid Spoiler, Wheel Locking Kit (17L), Front Side Airbags (43A), 17" Bright Machined Cast Aluminum (64D), Sonic Blue (SN), Leather Trim Sport Bucket Seats (K), Dark Charcoal (W), and another line that says "Price Adjustment Notice Applies" which is also on the printout. As you can see, a few of the options/equipment did not have a code printed next to them on the paper I was given so that's why I could not list the code here.

His quote for the X-plan was $28,327.77 and I am sure that price DOES include their "Protection Package"/(markup?).

Do you think he's truly stretching it other than the obvious (paint/protection)?

The auto is supposedly faster than the stick, and a lot easier on your right arm and left leg. It really depends on if you are doing a lot of city driving, and your own personal preference. I love my auto though. It's extremely fast, and shifts early and often. But like I said, from timeslips I have seen on this site and on the net... it looks like the auto is about a half second quicker to a hundred mph. Which is pretty much where it counts anyway, right?

Even the couple of times I did a brisk acceleration (about 3/4 throttle) from a stop, the Auto shifted crisp and firm. I'm wondering how firm it is at full throttle? Will it chirp the tires on the 1-2 shift when floored?

From what I've read, this new auto (on the average) does NOT absorb nearly the horsepower as the old auto's did. ET's prove it - the advantage at the strip of not having to worry about missing a shift or even losing time making a good shift has gotten even bigger with this new auto it seems.

Still, the 'Fun-Factor' of a stick is a good selling point too. I'm going to go drive the manual car again this afternoon and see how I feel about it having just driven the auto last evening.

Ah typo in the first post..... MSRP 28,950 instead of $29,940....That's where I got turned around.

Dang! Missed that typo and I don't know what I was thinking when I typed it in the first place? Drooling over the car, most likely!

Anyhow, I've fixed the typo - the MSRP is definitely $29,940 because that is on the window.

Thanks for pointing out the typo for me, SixtySix.

I agree that Bullitts look better on the Sonic Blue......but not on all colors. B) I've got a Satin Silver on the way, and the concepts look best on this particular color IMO.
