MT has a short test of the Cobalt SS in their Feb. '05 issue. It's better than I thought it would be. 0-60 in 6.0 seconds, quarter mile in 14.5 seconds @ 98.2 mph, 60-0 in 115 feet, 0.89 g on a 200 foot skidpad, and 69.0 mph through their 600 foot salom. Quite impressive salom figure for a FWD car, probably due to the locking diff. According to MT it's faster through the cones than an '05 Corvette Z51.
I hate the rear wing.
I myself plan to get an '05 Mustang V6 manual, but I won't be racing any of these...

I just test drove a V6 manual last week and really liked it, but I noticed that the V6's are starting to pile up at the Dealership. They had 10 of them and only 1 GT.
V6 5 speed manual Test Drive
Maybe it's almost time to make a deal on a V6?
Still reminds me of the Cavalier. Like the GTO, styling is just too '90s'.
If Ford had done the new Mustang like this; I don't think sales would be as great as they are. Why settle for the 'or' when you can demand the 'and'...as in style and power vs. style or power. GT seems to be missing the mark recently. Woder if the suits have decided to bring back the Camaro? Sharing a platform won't do it.

Ive got nothing against the Cobalt, i figure it doesnt matter who wins in any chevy vs ford if they both lose sales to asian cars. I hope chevy steals as many tiburon, RSX, tC/Celica, Civic, Accord coupe sales as possible.
cobalt?
its a nice economy car.
but its just that: and economy car...not for me
but there is a contest for a free Cobalt SS at the local chebby dealers n these parts. im entering anyway. the trade-in value would make a nice down payment on a stang hehehehe. heck, even my parents (blandmobile owners) like the idea
and about the looks, well, i think the looks are the best part of the car
really.

If the Volta is produced, I don't think it will be anywhere near the price of a Stang. I'd expect it to be more in the 80-100K price range.

Thats a lot better than the cavalier. GM keeps pouring only slightly better than mediocre engines in front wheel drive cars. That's stupid. But I'm sure there are quite a few people stupid enough to buy them.

Ford's engine program got way backed up when that Explorer fiasco occured. They've been behind ever since. [/b][/quote]I will additionally point out that even though it's blown, this 2.0 is practially spanking our 3.0 Duratech. We won't even mention the Focus powerplants. Ford's behind the General in real HP production. Let's just hope they keep producing lame duck designs, cause with a real design, the LS2 would be a hands down winner right now again the best 4.6 we CURRENTLY have.
How about some displacement Ford??
After all these years,

Anyone seen, (or heard) the Cobalt commercial? Is it me or is it just annoying?

The Cobalt SS is actually a decent performance car. The thing is, it doesn't make much power but it doesn't weigh that much. It's not surprising to me that it's pretty quick. I've driven 140 hp Cavaliers and even those aren't slouches .. they lack torque but if you rev them the Ecotec will move okay. The steering was another matter. It was some of the most terrible steering I've ever felt in my hands.
Hmm, that sounds an awful lot like what Ford did with the Taurus and Five Hundred. Are you going to criticize that too? If so, that's good, because I think getting rid of the Taurus name is a mistake.
Thanks in part to the Mustang GT's heavy curb weight, that makes the Cobalt SS almost as fast as the GT!
Not good. Chevy may not have good designs right now, but their powerplants are better than ever. Not a good sign. Ford better get the ball rolling .. soon.
I stand behind Ford 100% but I'm a realist. Ford needs to get their engine programs back on track. This is getting down right embarassing. Every review I read it's the same mantra: Great car, too bad the engine is weak.
The Cobalt is just Chevy's New Cavalier. Which I find Hysterical! Why did they change the name of one of their best selling cars, yet make the New One Look so Similar to the One they are Obviosly Ashamed of?
0-60 in 6.0 seconds, quarter mile in 14.5 seconds @ 98.2 mph
