I've heard from several paint shops, and experienced(?), that it is difficult and/or expensive to come up with a durable red pigment that won't fade or oxidize quickly. My red Probe certainly has suffered from this despite fanatical care. While red looks great, unless it spends a lot of time in a garage or shade, it may likely look rather faded in a few years.
True, but rhumb, Probes specifically had a bad problem with red fading to pink.

I think AAI has come a ways from then and I expect the paint to be better.

I agree about the pigment though. Just means I have to be extra diligent about looking after it.

I wouldn't worry about black with the heat. Air Conditioning on Mustangs are INCREDIBLE. I hope they keep the same A/C on the 2004 as they had on 1999-2004. It is simply amazing how quickly cold air comes out.
That's what I need to hear.

Currently my car is an inferno and a COLD A/C is HIGH on my priority list for a new car. It's good to hear that.

I've had all ranges of colors on cars from white to black. Silver metallics seem to hide things best. White hid dirt, light scratches, and swirls but touch up was more visable then silver. No black, never.

had a red v-6 that was easy to clean, but my black GT can be terribly hard to clean. washed it before a parade, and between my house, and the fairgrounds(about 1/20 mile) it was already slightly dirty, and needed dusted. Anyway, black is good if you're an obsessive compulsive cleaner, but otherwise, get a brighter color.

I have an onyx black Alero, and let me tell you, a clean, polished, waxed, shiny black car is like a deep, dark mirror that will engulf you. Beautiful That black '05 with red interior tugs at my will like you wouldn't believe. However, I am trying my very hardest to avoid the dark side :jedi:

While black is sleek, subtle, sexy, and agressive, it will also show every swirl, chip, scratch, bird-poop-stain, road grime, salt, and water spot the world throws at it. You have to either wash, polish, and wax it on a regular basis (adding swirl marks in the process), or just give up and not give a darn if your car is dirty/swirly/scratched/etc. I now just wash it now and then, and enjoy the 1-2 days of blissful black glistening.

Black does hide hail damage pretty well, compared to colors, but not as well as silver, IMO.

So, bottom line, black is the best color for a Mustang that will live in your garage, where you can just stare into the bottomless black depths, and revel in the way your unworn red interior and chrome gauges complement it.
