clutch ut oh!

Clutch has been fine up until today. All of a sudden no clutch. Pedal pressure reduced and doesnt have any resistance until halfway depressed to the floor. Any one know where to start? No cash or credit.

How many miles? Sounds like a hydraulic problem. Could be a leak in the clutch line. Could also be the master or slave cylinder

Here's some troubleshooting steps from the factory service manual:

C1 CHECK THE FLUID LEVEL
• NOTE: Do not check the hydraulic system after the road test. Allow the vehicle to cool down before carrying out the clutch hydraulic system check. Remove the brake and clutch reservoir cap

Check the fluid level of the brake and clutch reservoir. Is the fluid level at or above the step mark?

YES--> Go to C2. NO-->add brake fluid to the specified level. Go to C2

C2 INSPECT THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM FOR LEAKAGE
• Check the reservoir and reservoir lines for leakage
• Check the master cylinder and hydraulic line for leakage.
• Check the clutch slave cylinder and the hydraulic line connection for leakage.
• Are there any signs of leakage

YES-->INSTALL new components as necessary. TEST the system for normal operation.
NO--> go to C3

C3 CHECK INTERNAL OPERATION
• Remove the reservoir cap.
• Have an assistant slowly depress and release the clutch pedal.
• On the down stroke, the fluid level should not increase by more than 1 mm (0.039 in)
• Does the fluid level increase more than 1 mm (0.039 in)

YES-->INSTALL a new cylinder master cylinder assembly.
NO--> go to C4

C4 CHECK THE CLUTCH PEDAL RESERVE
NOTE: The clutch reserve is the distance between the clutch pedal when fully depressed and the position when the vehicle starts to move forward.
• Park the vehicle on a level surface.
• Check for obstructions behind clutch pedal.
• Attach a cable tie to the lower clutch pedal.
• Attach a tape measure to the cable tie.
• Depress the clutch fully and start the vehicle.
• Shift the transmission into 1st gear.
• Use the seam on the steering wheel as a reference point.
• While observing the tape measure, slowly engage the clutch, noting when the vehicle starts to move forward.
• Is the clutch pedal reserve greater than or equal to 25 mm No (1 in)?

YES--> The clutch hydraulic system is OK. TEST the system for normal operation.
NO--> Go to C5 (C5 goes down into checking the clutch pressure plate. Your problem definitely sounds hyradulic)

top off your brake fluid, park on hill with drivers side as high as possible, nose a little down- this puts the line as close to the top of a air bubble in the slave as possible... slowly pump the clutch(too fast mixes bubbles) it will self bleed.

alternately, if you have a vacuum pump, park same way, pump the reservoir, done in seconds.

sounds like 90% sure your slave is shot though, my f150 failed exactly like this,,,bellhousing is probably wet looking. you might get a month out of it by bleeding occasionally, but if its bad eventually the tranny has to come out to swap it

Just rolled her over 100k this summer, now shes at about 103k. but not gonna lie I've drove this car like a bat out of hell. I got it when I was 17 years old for graduating high school. I took it to ford several times in 2009 (under warranty) to have 2,3,4 gear shift kits replaced untill they put gt500 shift kit 1st through 5th, or so the invoice stated. Havent had a problem till now.
I was pissed off at a dude and I was going to deal with him and driving in anger when this happened. I pulled e brake to whip the stang around on a way too small Street, tried to reverse but Nada. Tried to slam into first, nothing there either. The whole **** time I've had the throttle WO. PISSED OFF so much and in a hurry I finally grabbed second and got a result but not much. Something gave and started sounding ljke metal parts were flying all over the road. Nope! Nothing hit the asphalt or at least that I could see in the rear view. I didn't do much more than 20mph at the very most after that, just enough to make it over the hill and then I coasted 1/4mi to a business parking lot. The car still running but not in gear. Called the wrecker and now she sits in the drive way....
I don't know squat about trans but I'm savvy with a socket set and luckily I've got about every tool you could ever buy on a snap-on truck. Thanks to my dad

WElls im looking at dropping the transmission and installing completely new clutch kit because if I don't do it now I'll be pulling it again real soon to fix the next part that goes.
After all I rolled her over 100k during the summer. Now its at about 103k.

When you do, make sure you replace the slave cylinder too while you're in there.

yep, if you hold the clutch for any extended time at WOT the throwout probably melted/seized, and smoked the slave.

if pulling the tranny down, suggest dropping the rear of the Kmember- I will next time- its a ***** to get out otherwise, I had to push a couple clutch fingers in to get the pilot in/out of the pressure plate- simply cant tilt the thing far enough to tuck it in/out without pressure plate contact...
I had it up on a lift with a tranny jack, cannot imagine how frustrating it woulda been on stands... if the rear crossmember is lowered even a inch, looks like it would slide right out like most...

hate to preach at guys, but gotta... I'm 51 now, see how utterly stupid I was as a young guy with a powerful car- thank God I never killed anyone, just tore crap up.
suggest you think hard about how lucky you are to have such a cool car-and tools!- 99.9% arent that lucky. I had to rebuild my own automatic transmissions in highschool, in my fron yard, on a $90 a week dishwashing job with barely enough kmart tools to get it apart- and like a idiot, still tore it up repeatedly till wrecking it and almost putting a buddys head thru my windshield... was 17, havent had a ticket since (knock on wood). responsibility is all to easy to forget- try not to before lack of it becomes a regret. my friends minor concussion coulda just as easily been a fractured skull.

Ive got 16 and 18 yr old sons driving, a 15 yr old gets his temps in two weeks... thank God they arent as stupid as I was at their age. they bought their own junky cars to redo, the 18 yr old has a '90 mark vii he gets compliments on all the time- 1500 bucks and nearly a years work, the 16 yr old has about 2500 in his old ranger, both were ready for the junkyard, had hundreds of hours invested in before ever driving them, but think it was a good way to go- they paid for everything on their own, were involved with all the wrenching/welding/painting- and countless hours of prep/cleaning, and after putting so much work into them, seeing how hard it is to fix things, knowing how long it takes, they are quite careful not to drive angry or try to show off... the mark has been to the dragstrip- wasnt fast, but the only time the 18 yr old has flogged it...time and a place for everything... the 16 yr old might take his ranger this week
