Climate Control Problem

Hello, I have an 05 Mustang GT, and encountered a new problem last night. I had my air controls set to floor/defroster and I noticed air coming out of my air conditioning vents as well. If I turned it up to 4, it came out even more. The same is true if I have it on floor only, it comes out of the air vents also. The other settings seem to work ok. If I have it on defroster only, then that works normal. Anyone else encounter this? Thanks.

I am going to assume you have not had your car since 05. As far as I know, this has occurred on all of the 05+ models. I also assume that the air that is coming out of the dash vents is really not that much compared to what is coming out of the defrost and floor vents.

Actually, I have had it since 05. It is a daily driver, and I have never noticed this before. I did a search and found numerous threads about air coming from the defroster when it was set to floor only, but that is not my problem. There is way too much air coming at my face when I have set to floor only or floor/defroster. I know I can close the vents, but something isn't right here. I would have noticed it before.

I wonder if something is preventing the flapper from closing all the way. It is normal for air to come out of the defroster when you have it set to floor only but as you said, that is not the problem you are having. Since the problem just recently appeared I can only think that something is causing the flapper to be blocked.

Now I could be completely wrong here but have you ever changed the air filter (the one under the cowl)? I just wonder if something got by it. I had never changed mine. I took mine out the other day and it was in really bad shape. Wet, distorted etc. I just wonder if something big enough got by it, that it could cause a problem. Again, just grasping at straws here.

Actually, I just changed the air filter about 2 months ago.

Maybe a loose vacuum line that controls where the air directed ?

I must be one of the lucky ones. I have an 05 GT (since March 2005) with 50,000 miles on it and the vent system works perfectly today just as it has since day one. Heck, after reading this thread, I tested each of the vent modes the next time I took the car out.

Perfect!

Hehe, good to hear. All of a sudden mine began working normal again last night. It still worked fine on my way to work this morning. Strange. I will just leave it alone for now. Thanks for the replies everyone.

Now THAT is the power of positive thinking! The instant you knew that an 05's vent system CAN work correctly straight from the factory, YOUR 05's vent system started working correctly!!!
