When to change filter system: When you get car home from dealership delivery.

Read this:
http://home.usadatanet.net/~jbplock/ISO5011/SPICER.htm

It gives you some info on different filters.

Note, that although KN flows more air than stock, it also lets more crap into the engine.

Here's something a little less scientific, but easier to read:

Whatever the owners manual says, or get the K&N and clean it every 5k or so.

I believe changing the air filter is dependent on the condition of the air filter. As such when living in dirtier climates I'd suspect you'd need to change it every 7500 miles or so. I know out here in Arid-zona we typically change ours every second oil change since our air is heavily laden with particulates (dust).

Even permanent filters like the K&N need cleaning more often. I've opted to pull mine out and clean it at least once every 6 months.

Obviously with only 500 miles on the ODO it will be sometime before I change it...however, unlike my previous owner's manual which gave you instructions on how to change it...there are none in the '06 manual. It appears that there are three flexible plastic tabs which need to be pulled and then the cover to the air filter housing can be lifted, is that the case? In my '02 you had to disconnect the MAF sensor electrical wiring in order to separate the air filter housing and gain access to the filter...is that the case with the 05s/06s?

I know one thing... the filters for our Stangs are not cheap. Unless the price has come down in the past year.

Mine isn't bad for 13,000 miles. I have blown it off with compressed air a couple times though.

Giddyup, obviously you've removed the air filter...is it easy? Procedures? Just snap open the two pull-tabs and lift?
Did you have to disconnect the MAF electrical sensor wiring harness like in the 94-04 models so you can lift up the air filter housing to have room to insert the replacement filter?

Thanks!
