Changed out Steeda for Hurst
I replaced my Steeda Tri-ax shifter for a Hurst shifter. Man, I have to say I like the Hurst alot more and at nearly half the price. Just wonder if anyone else has done the same?
That's interesting! Most people have changed out their Hurst for a Steeda or Pro 5.0. Now that the MGW shifter is on the horizon I suppose some will switch out their Steeda and Pro 5.0 shifters for it.
I had the Hurst and now the Pro 5.0. The Hurst's notchiness drove me crazy!

Wow! And I was just talking about getting a Hurst shifter. Man, I'd hate to go through so many shifters to get the right one. I just want a smooth, short-throw shifter that's good around town and wide open throttle. Any suggestions? Because anything has to be better than the stock shifter..

I like the notch feeling, very positive. The price is right and I too think it looks awesome in the car. I am thinking about changing the white ball for a black one.
I think it's all personal preference. I like the positiveness of the notchiness so when I swap shifters it will probably be a Hurst + it does look the best - especially with the taller handle!
If on the other hand you prefer a smoother (read more Japanese feeling) shifter than I would say go with another brand.
I prefer the connected feel of the Hurst.

I installed the Hurst shifter right before the new year and love it. Mostly.
It looks flat-out great - no other shifter comes close, IMO. And it does shorten the throw by almost 50%.
The negative is that it's definitely more effort to shift. The stock shifter would almost shift itself with a small nudge - the Hurst shifter you have to forcibly push it into gear.
That said, after two months of using it, the extra effort is not even an issue any more. You get used to it quickly, and it possibly has broken in a bit, so it seems (or is) easier now than when it was new.
The Apr 2007 issue of Motor Trend has a road test of the 2007 Shelby GT (not to be confused with the Shelby GT 500). The Shelby has the Hurst shifter installed from the factory. The Motor Trend reviewer described it like this:
"The Hurst shift cures the stock unit's side-to-side slop when in gate. Baby it, and it feels notchy, but treat it like a precision rifle bolt, and it snaps from gear to gear."
And that's basically a good assessment.

The HURST is awesome. Love the feel and the look. Especially since I don't usually just drive 1/4 mile at a time. It is great for the street, and after a tad of pushing so to say, she just snaps to the touch now. It just looks right too. My old Fox had the Pro5.o, and I had the early tri-ax on my 99. so I was up for the change with the 07. Now if I can only find that MRT Black shift ball I bought for my 05, just before selling her. Then it'll be just right!!
Have the Tri-Ax, have not had/used the Hurst. Will say the Hurst looks great. I've been super pleased with the Tri-Ax, while some call it "notchy" - I would classify it as "rachet" like. Like doing alot of "spirited" driving on mountain/hilly roads and its nice when your downshifting to know your going to end up with the gear you wanted
They have been saying that for the past year!
That being said, I installed the Hurst about a month ago, because I am sick of waiting for the MGW. I seem to have an issue with the Hurst though, if I put it into first, second, fifth or reverse and shift it into neutral, the shifter does not bounce back to the middle. For example, if I shift from first to neutral, the shifter will stay towards the left instead of springing back to the middle. Is there a fix for this? Did I over tighten someting?? Any help or insight on this would be great.
