Change that Cabin Air Filter!

Look at the old filter after just 15,000 miles of use...maybe the air in LA has something to do with it.

I'm not one but for the S197 owners, where is the cabin filter located?

That filter did not look dirty to me, When they are caked with dust then they are dirty, most filters performance improves as they get dirtier.

Mine still looks almost brand new after 56k miles. Midwest country air must be pretty clean. I am in Farmland and except for the planting and harvest season, its not bad.

A few small leaves have made their way into mine in the past. I just change it at the end of Fall before it gets put away.
A lot has to do with how often you run the fan on the heat/ac on fresh air.
More volume going through, more debris to get trapped.

It's the air... I have to say, the cabin filter in my 05 didn't look half that bad when I changed it at 37000 miles...

I find the cabin filter kinda humorous...

You open the doors, the outside air gets in. You roll the windows down, the outside air gets in. You run with the windows down or the top down... the outside air gets in.

Kinda defeats the whole purpose, ya ask me...

Now, if they scrubbed the air for the *smells* (which they don't... not completely... still smell the treatment plant by the beltway south of 10...) then it'd make sense.

But in the spirit of cleanliness... yes, I will be changing mine.

When you think about it that way , you are right. It doesn't make sense.

Of course, I at least generally don't roll down the road opening and closing the doors, or, even the windows I have to admit. For me, it works pretty well.

I DO wish they had an activated carbon filter available for it though. Usually, that wish is strongest when I drive by a dairy...

It just dawned on me that we had some major fires in the LA area last Fall. That could have caused alot of the black stuff in the filter. Nevertheless, I'd prefer to keep to the windows up and the A/C on recirculate (warm air) just to keep the bad air outside...maybe better for the lungs!

Gahhhh... almost 60k and 3+ yahrens and I haven't even LOOKED at my filter...

Maybe that is why the airflow is so weak at the 1 and 2 settings?

Where do I get a new filter cheep?
