Car Duster

Does anyone use a California Car Duster or something similar? What has been your experience? Any input is really appreciated...

Some will swear by it. I used it once and wasn't very thrilled about it. It also depends on where you live. The Vegas desert where I live sand blasts the car to the point where you would be just smearing dust and dirt over the car making it more effective to just wash the thing.

I'm on my 2nd one in about 12-15 years or so. I had a little problem with the one I have now leaving streaks, but I discovered you're supposed to wrap it in newspaper for a day or two to get all the excess oil off of it, I had to do mine for 2-3x that. Works pretty good on my cars, I mainly use it to dust the cars off when they've been sitting in the garage without being driven for a few weeks, works great for that, although I don't use it on my one car that is black, just to be safe.

because you did not let the duster sit on newspaper for a few days to pull the excessive oils out of it. After you do that the duster works great. I too have been using them for 20 years. second one ..

I've used mine for years. They work very well for light dust. I've noticed on VERY hot days (carshows etc) it tends to leave little streaks. I think it's the paraffin that's maybe melted a little. I always dust and then use Meguiar's quik detailer.

I've had mine for about 10 years and carry it in the GT where ever I go. I only use it on a dusty, but otherwise clean car. Works great!

Had one for about 12 years now and as with many others, once it gets broke in, it works great for a dusty/but clean car. I use mine everytime before I drive it as Alloy shows all the dust

And I use mine if its been a day or two since washing before putting the car cover on (clean car of course) so the cover doesn't rub any dust in.

I thought it was for my dash or I noticed more there as I always washed the dust off car more often than dust , it depends on the dust I gust type and if it could scratch if I use it so its very judgemental.

I use a swiffer for the cluster panel and interior now, I had found the best for a cars surface duster was like a new commercial type mop hear they had something on the fibre when brand new that worked some kinda magic when dusting.

on a clean but dusty car it saves a wash/dry...just keep it in its plastic box, never let it get dirty...had two of them , one of the kids dropped it in the driveway- just threw it away...they seem to be able to soak up endless amounts of dust, but if it ever gets sand/dirt, would be afraid of it turning to sandpaper...dirty cars need washed, dusty cars though can be spotless again in a couple minutes max- great little item.

Have used one for years and in the AZ desert, a necessity. Nice when you do not need to use water in our area which is still in a drought. The dusting saves so much time. Most of the time it is just dusty from our blowing desert dirt. Never had a problem when I let the new dusters sit on a newspaper for a few days as others mentioned. Worth the money in my opinion. Good luck.

I have used the Cal duster since they came out,on every car I have owned. When they first came out they had loads of excess wax to bleed off in the newspaper but now that they are made in China they don't seem as effective as they once were.I use a microfiber duster on the Mustang going over it very lightly then Zaino spray detailer before I cover it in the garage.

I actually spray mine down with a mist of Meguiar's Quik Detailer, then run it over the car. The detailer mist helps "soak up" the dust and light dirt. I generally don't apply much pressure for fear it'll scratch but to be honest I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary in the few years I've been using mine. Black cars might be another story, but on torch red and my other two cars (silver and light blue) it's been fine.

The directions on mine also say that you can wash the head in the washing machine. I haven't tried that yet but mine's about due.
