Car & Driver flaunts Hyundai as Mustang Beater...
What a joke...a Hyundai Genesis concept (no interior by the way) 0-60 in 5.9 a mustang beater? they had better think again...........pricing estimated at $25K....

I read this too. There are supposed to be two versions of the car, one with the V6 and the other with a turbo 4cyl. Should be a nice car but a Mustang beater, NOT!!!!

I've seen some stuff on that Genesis coupe, and it does look impressive, but it's not a Mustang Killer. The V6 version, which is likely the hottest performance version available, is likely competetion for the V6 stang. I woudn't put the two in the same category though, since they are obviously going to be marketed to very different crowds.

I haven't read the article yet, but if they are comparing the V6 Genesis to the GT Mustang (which I'm sure they are since the hp ratings are suppose to be equal), they are so out of touch of reality its comical! C & D gets a from me!

If the hp ratings are the same, why isn't it a fair comparison?

Well guys it's a one-off concept car that's ESTIMATED at 5.9 0-60. If it really does roll in with 300 ponies and it weighs less than a Stang (which is very likely) then it could give a Stang a run for it's money. Ricer, V6, independent rear - none of that has any bearing. It's all about horsepower to weight and gearing...

I think it will depend on the aftermarket support it gets. Hyundai is trying to get street cred with the tuner crowd. I don't think it'll be faster, but it's probable it'll handle better, and be lighter. I agree with 05fordgt, they're all sporty cars, but the platforms are different, other comparisons would be better.
As a side note, it'll be interesting how they develop this chassis since Hyundai has been active in WRC but proports to be interested in fielding a car capable of drifting.
I quit reading Car & Driver years ago, too stuck on worshipping 1960's european cars to notice anything else has value. I like Motor Trend for general car news right now.
ps. the passenger windows are ugly.

I can't see why this isn't a valid comparison
Both rear wheel drive
both 300hp
should have same curb weight as GT
and the base price on the Hyundai is comparable to the Mustang GT
they are obviously going after a segment of the Pony car market
- specifically the Mustang
Sounds like a valid comparsion to me

Compitetion is a good thing. If the Hyundai does come out and actually beats the Mustang, it means the next generation Mustangs will come with a 5.4 DOHC with 400 ponies. Then Hyundais can SOHC my DOHC
