I have to admit the GT500 is one of the sweetest cars I've seen in years. I'm not even a fan of manual transmissions, but this is the only car in years that would make me consider purchasing another one. The thought of 500 hp stock is seductive. I have a Auto GT on order, scheduled to be built the first week of April, but I'm considering waiting another year and a half for the GT500. With the exception of the transmission, it has everything I've ever wanted in a car. If I bought it, it would be used as weekend pleasure vehicle or a once or twice a week driver, instead of a daily driver. I'd also only consider buying one if I could get the dealer to guarantee no more than sticker price.

Is Anyone else waiting on a GT thinking about waiting for the GT500 instead?

I mentioned that to my wife this morning as a matter of fact. Then reality set in. You don't buy a $40,000 car with a daughter starting college.

I read the autoweek article, and Ford said they would build as many as people wanted. Where is the link to the 7500 first year? I might wait another year and a half, but I'm not going to wait 2+ or more. I've been waiting for the new Mustang for 2 years already. If this is true, I'll just get the GT and order a GT500 in a few years.

Just my 2 cents.....if you really want the GT500, I would go ahead and keep the GT order, take it, and then if you want a GT500 when it comes out, buy one. This way, you will not drop an order for a car you have wanted forever for the possibility of getting what could be a very limited production car. Obviously the drawback is the loss you will take on the GT. I would assume up to 4-5k. But, you will be getting the use of it for 1 1/2+ years. If you think you can afford that kind of a loss, I think that is the best avenue. Since you are thinking of buying a $40,000 car, I would assume it would not be that hard to swallow.

I think I will like the balance and overall year round drivability of the Mustang GT better, and I like the non leather pony cloth interior better.

If I could pick and choose, I’d take the V6’s rear badge, badge-less fender, and black rocker treatment. I would take the Shelby’s below grill fog lights and front and rear spoilers, without Shelby lettering or stripes, the rest is like what we have ordered a GT with driving lights in grill. IMHO I'll keep the GT as is.

I'll admit...... I think I have been Snakebitten.......

The thought has actually entered my head today about this car....

Not sure if I could part with the Dark Knight II because I love the darn thing so much.... or if I would be able to scrape together the extra cash to cover the difference between my trade in $$ and the GT500 price...........

But the darn thought is gestating in my brain......... :bang:

Based on what we've seen with the '05, I really project we're going to see actual sell prices on this car at 50 large. I'm sure some will be able to find decent deals, but for most (like me) this car will be only available as a second hand deal and maybe not even then.

For those that can afford it and don't mind the wait....GO FOR IT. This thing is already in the automotive history books and job one has barely been thought of.
Let's face it, good 'ol Shel isn't getting any younger. If this were to be one of the last Fords he has a hand in, the colletor value of this thing will be unreal.

Oh, how long do you think it'll be before Leno has one of these???

I'm going to hang on to my GT and see what happens in 2 years. I got such a great deal on this one, I should be in pretty good shape by the time they've been out for a few months and even better once the 2008's come out.

I'm going to ride with GT for now and eat the loss I take when I buy a 07 Cobra.

I will keep my 05 gt and then consider the possibility of getting the gt500 later on...probably in 2007 or 2008...
It's a really awesome car, I just wish they could have added the option to have an auto/sequential gearbox (like the Caddy STS-V...even better, like the SMG-II of the BMW M5) and also IRS instead of the live axle, as I think it's coming out with a 6speed manual and no IRS.

I think the GT500 is only a one time deal I think Ford will continue with the SE the year after with a Mach 1 or Boss and I think they are saving the IRS for the Boss, makes since since the Boss was a track car. There will be plenty of Cobras in one fashion or another coming down the pike just not all with be called Shelby's. JMHO.

If I'm not mistaken the GT 500 comes out next spring as a 2007, and not actually in 2007. Also, it will have 450 HP not 500...
In Canada it will be about $55000, I don't know if I would pay $55000 for a Mustang, especially a solid axle Mustang, even if it's an SVT that says Shelby on the trunk.
Just my 02 cents.
Paul

Since I don't have build date for my GT it is very tempting. I know I won't cancel the GT. Never know maybe I will take it if it ever comes in. Might sell or trade for the Shelby. The loss on the GT wouldn't be to bad on A-plan. Might even break even or better if I were to sell iout right.

I would love to but I don't want to wait another year. If my order doesn't go through then I may consider it.

For all of us that have a, z or even x plan, we might as well forget that. Your not going to get that deal. You'll be lucking to get this car at msrp. It was hard enough getting a gt or vert for msrp or below for many buyers. Images how hard it will be here. I'll take a guess and say that the dealers will mark up this car considerably.

I'm going to keep my GT and purchase the new GT500 when it comes out, make my '05 GT my daily driver, my '07 GT500 my pleasure driver, and my '67 GT500 my special-occassion/Sunday driver.

Hey, there's always student loans, right?

I thought long and hard about it, for maybe three seconds. Then I snapped out of it. I can't afford it! While the GT 500 is a beautiful car, there's no way I could reconcile it with my budget. I'd be working JUST to pay for my car! I do, however wish the rescupted front end and spoiler were something the current model possessed. It's akin to last year's show car. I especially like the road lamps appearing low in the bumper. If I were completely out of debt, I'd certainly consider this car. Maybe in a couple of years...

It will be interesting to see what changes they make on the regular GT the next few years, I guess a lot of details from the GT500 will carry over to the the regular Stangs... the leather panel is already stated but I wouldn't be surprised if the exterior starts to resemble last year's show car more, too.

Oh well, I'm not expecting to be in the market for one for at least another year anyway... patience...patience..

Thanks for the opinions everyone. I just need to find out how many they are going to build and when a person could order one. I've been saving for over 2 years. If I didn't have the downpayment, I wouldn't even think about it.
