Canadian vs. US options
I've been shopping around and debating buying the 2005 versus waiting for the 2006 because of my previous experience with 2 really bad ford model year vehicles. Anyway I've been reading these forums and shopping locally around the dealerships and I've noticed something odd. We seem to have different options and standard equipment in Canada versus the US.
-All 2005 mustangs I have looked at have the smoking package(ashtray/lighter)my understanding is the US ones do not?
-Spoiler delete is NOT available in Canada. Lame since I wanted a CDC ducktail, anyone know the reason for this?
-Canadian standard equipment for the radio is Shaker 500, there is no lesser option only an upgrade to the 1000. Lame again since I would opt for the cheapest radio and swap it for a XM.
-My 2000 mustang GT had traction control as an option but I was told it is standard equipment in the USA since 1999. Anyone confirm or deny this?
There are probably other things I've missed but it certainly is a bit odd. Perhaps they tailor to the market? However, the no spoiler delete thing is just bizzare.

Ya. Canadian mustangs have always been optioned differently here. There is no delux or premium here.
For example, when you order a GT in Canada, it comes standard with cruise control, traction control, abs, shaker 500, spoiler etc.... Your only options are Leater, IUP, ICAP, wheels / nuts, anti-theft, airbags, and shaker 1000.
It was like this in 02 when I bought my last mustang, too. There were basically no options available except leather, and upgrade stereo.

No spoiler delete is because the spoiler is made in Canada? My dealer was trying to find out if he can do me a favour and somehow get me one without. I dont really want to bondo the holes when I remove it. Kind of lame anyway.
The explanation I got for Canadian cars is this.
Because the canadian market is so small for Mustangs compared to the US, they need to reduce the number of possible combination of cars on dealer lots. Dealers will have a hard time stocking such a broad variety of Mustangs, because they are not a high volume of cars.
The '06 GT will likely have a spoiler delete in Canada.

Well since I'm already leaning towards an 06 since I want the titanium color really bad, perhaps I'll spend the next 10 months just lurking on the forums and wishing I had one. If it will have a spoiler delete I'm sold. I've never really cared for the larger spoilers, people just tend to steal them and I dont care for the look. My fiero way back in the day had the spoiler stolen twice and no ones ever even taken a sniff on the semi ducktail spoiler on my 2000 GT. Plus I really think the duck tail look compliments the 2006.
The car is not in production anymore and niether are the spoilers. The spoilers are made in a fiberglass mold that is only good for 3-4 castings then a new one has to be used. No one made a comparable aftermarket spoiler so the only option was to go to pontiac direclty. I dont care for spoilers but that car just had to have it. It didn't look right without it.
i know this is way off subject but i think the STI Subaru in canada has rear folding seats and the american one doesn't, so I can see there being differences, but i cant see why the manufactures would make them

If you can't come to the US to get a car without the spoiler, you could always buy a new decklid and sell the old... ebays always an option and you could probably buy one w/o spoiler for the same price you'd be able to sell yours w/ spoiler. Or even better could see if you could get a US dealer to swap decklids with a car on the lot. I'm sure they'd charge but at least you wouldn't have any knicks, scratches etc.
Why do you not have as many options as we do down here? Because its part of our plan to make your life as bland (why is it every time I go to Canada the food has NO taste?) as possible until you become the 51st state. Wahahaha Wahaha WAHAHAHAHA!!! :usa:

Our food may not have as much "taste" as the US but that is because we don't want the same obesity issue the US has

51st state...ha. Look at the news recently. Since Bush won again a lot of Americans are moving to Canada, including a gentleman who's great great grandfather wrote the American Anthem.
True, Canadian Beer is better... esp Moosehead, mmmm Moosehead :moose: (how come that, and only that, tastes better in Canada, eh?). And darn right about (read aboot) fat, the few times I've been in Canada and crossed back over its like the people suddenly grow a foot or two - sideways, eh?
As far as Americans moving North, we're infiltrating
, eh?. But once we run out of resources, its going to be "um, Canada, get out," eh?
