Can Someone Take a Picture of Their Center Console
That works too. Although adds to the time it would take to utilize it. If my safety is on, it blocks the firing pin. I can pull the trigger all day with one in the chamber and the safety on and it won't do anything.
Now, if it were that bad of a bump, I guess it could knock the safety off, and then fire the gun? I think the car would be pretty badly hurt before the gun went off from a bump that bad, so a bullet through the gas tank would probably be an answer to prayer, provided I had time to get out.

I am assuming TreadHead is talking about the recently passed HR 218 (although that title could be wrong) which states that all current or retired Law Enforcement Officers can carry anywhere, anytime in the U.S. (more or less, not on planes, and some local laws still apply depending on where you are).
As far as the necessity of a pistol, to quote a semi-decent movie (AVP): "Think of it like a condom, I would rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it."
In any event, I'll take mine in .45acp (JMB was a great guy: 1911(A1), Hi-Power, too many to mention).
Never thought I would say this before in the same sentence on this site, but safe driving and safe shooting everybody.

If I am in my car and need it, then something must seriously be an issue, because I will almost always have a time to retreat first. Hit the clutch, hit the gear, hit the gas and I'm gone! So, leaving one out of the chamber does not sound practical to me, that's all. Plus, if the girly were to need to use it, the last thing I would want her doing is fumbling around in an already highly tense situation. Or what if the dude grabbed my arm, rendering me unable to load the chamber? Too many situations can occur. The safety I can hit while swinging my arm around and it won't slow me down a bit.

I would love a full size .45 too, but I'm a college student, poor. So, I will have to enjoy what I have until this education pays off.
Brett, please not the SW 500 for CCW. I've got a Desert Eagle, but that's not a carry gun. I wouldn't use it anywhere but at the range. I'd hate to be sitting on the witness stand, being prosecuted for defending my or my wife's life, and have the prosecutor pull out my DE or a SW500 out for evidence. The jury may faint or think I'm a nut. Besides I know that center console is big, but I don't think it'll fit.

Yes, a hand gun. No, you don't need a concealed carry permit to have it in the glove box or the center console. I can show you the statues if anyone is interested. I am willing to put my butt on the line because I know this is fully legal in my state, so please no "You have to have a CCW to carry" arguments. That was why I was being vague, trying to avoid an argument.
I love FL for that reason. 19 years old, and I can have a hand gun in my car "enclosed in a container with a lid." Can't get a CCW permit until I am 21, so this will suffice, just like it does now in my truck.

I also live in CT, and have a permit to carry, I believe in CT you cannot carry a loaded gun in a car, it has to be concealed and on your person...Colt officers model for me.
I forgot to mention this before:
As far as gun safety goes, there are so many makes, models, action types, safety mechanisms, it would take me pages to go through it all. When it comes down to it, the most important safety is in between your ears.
Gun ownership and use has a serious stigma, whether it is from those in the know, or those who just want to attack serious, safe gun owners. This is a topic important to me not only as a future LEO but as a firearm enthusiast/shooting sports participant. If any of you have questions/concerns/comments feel free to PM me, because I love to help people better understand the need for firearms both in the world we came from and the world we now live in.
Wow, this thread went WAY off topic.

You ain't kidding. Personally I wouldn't want something that big, a bit overkill in my book, not to mention the recoil on that thing...

Just busting your chops. I just saw it and fell in love, one of those gotta haves. I don't think the 4 incher is as intimidating, the girls don't seemed to be intimidated by my 4 inches
And this is the new topic, since I got what I needed out of the old one. My thread, my rules, right?

Not sure if you meant it to read like that, you may want to modify it. But you are right.

Why don't you just mount a 50mm Machine gun to the roof

It may ALL be "on topic"... these cars draw a lot of attention and could be a carjacking target.
You can carry a gun in your car in Georgia, but if I'm correct it has to be visible to an officer if you're pulled over. Either that - or - you're required to inform the officer "I have a weapon in the ______ "
On a related note:
It sounds crazy but I swear it's true... there is a city (or county) in North Georgia with a law that requires every household to have a gun. It's certainly no longer enforced but it's still an active law. Not surprisingly, I think they have a pretty low crime rate and I don't recall any gun accidents there!

I can see how our Canadian friends don't understand how we like to carry guns in our cars. Heck in Canada there's no such thing as justifiable homicide. If somebody carjacks you in Canada and say theoretically you had a gun on you (no concealed carry there) and you shot the guy that had a knife to your wife's throat, you'd get locked up forever. No such thing as killing in self defense there. I'm not knocking Canada, I'm just letting people know. I'm sure most people have no idea.
My dad was a victim of a carjacking attempt in MA many years ago. He used his gun to save his life. No shots fired. He pointed it right between the felon's eyes and the guy did a quick 180 and ran away. To this day he attributes that gun to saving his life.
Personally I think carrying a weapon is serious business and it is everybody's right to do so regardless. Good practical training is important, but unfortunately not everybody does it.
US Supreme Court ruled that the police aren't required to protect individuals, only the community. If the police can't do it, then you have to fend for yourself.
McDGT is talking about Kennesaw, GA. "It's the law in Kennesaw!"
