It looks like they made all 2005 Mustangs meet California standards. Anyone think otherwise?

If this is so, then why did they do this? They basically stoled horsepower from Mustangs that are being shipped to other states for no reason.

The brochure says that the 2005 Mustang is 56% cleaner than the 2004 Mustang. That equates to a lot of reduced power.

You're going to see this on more and more vehicles in the near future as emissions control standards get even more stringent. I think it's a good thing, but I can already hear the wails and anticipate the questions about how to desmog the cars, as well as the posts bemoaning the loss of a little power so that we can all breathe a little easier.

Sorry clan--you must have posted as I was typing. 56% cleaner with 40 more horses sounds like an improvement to me.

It probably could have been an even greater horsepower improvement, with out the country wide strict emmission system.

All I will say is that if you had breathed the air in LA in the 50's and 60's, you'd be darn glad that we have those controls today.

No offense towards anybody, but I want to know what can some one do with a 320 hp car that he/she can't do with a 300 hp car?
I have read it at so many places, GT is underpowered, ford should have gone 320 may 340 hp.
Just curious, how much of a difference if any would it be on 0-60 or 1/4 times with 20-30 more hp?

the Mustang is 50-state legal.

Maybe when they were writing up the first draft of the order guide which we got it was still in the process of being certified.

Thought I'd bump this topic back up from the dead - the '06 order guide reverts back to the original emission control order code options instead of the catch all 50-state code 425 . I stumbled on this b/c I am anticipating ordering an '06 from a San Diego dealer and registering it back home in AZ - trying to get them to order without the CA state emission system. (code 423)
