California Emission System (NE?)

Need some help. Just reviewed DORA for my GT expected to arrive 5/8. In reviewing it, I noticed an option code 422 "California Emissions System", which I not provided the dealer.

Would there be a reason why this is listed in that the car is being sent to Ct.? Not sure I understand this. Would anyone know if its due to newer Ct. smog regulations? Can anyone identify what is specific to the California cars compared to rest of country? More restrictice cat? etc..

Any help would be great? Should I mention this to dealer, etc..

We just had a discussion on this very issue in this thread.

http://forums.bradbarnett.net/showthread.php?t=63806

CT is a border state of NY. Dealers in border states of states requiring CA emissions on cars e.g. NY, will sometime require that all cars ordered at their dealership have this code. This enables them to sell their cars to folks in CT and in NY.

The end of that thread asks about dyno testing.
My car was 271 rwhp stock with cal. emissions 422.
That is on par with all other cars.
Not a big deal. If you want to try to not order it, go ahead. I don't think it is worth the effort. If you plan on getting the car tuned, it won't matter anyway.

thanks... Since the car supposed build start was 4/13, probably too late and dealer might give me grief about it. Sounds like its not a big deal, but wasn't quite convinced from the thread. Although feel better about it based on your rwhp numbers.

Based on the stock dynojet results I've seen on here (spreadsheet), his 271hp number is right inline with the average I got (270rwhp)

Follow up: Dealer says that although Ct. is not obliged to require Calif Emis Systems, they are now having it insatlled on all of their cars. This dealer has a sister dealer in Mass., so my presumption is it makes it easier for their cars to go back in forth between the dealers, as Mass. can't sell a car without the stricter emission requirements. His expecation was that Ct. would enforce stricter missions in the near future. I can't help think having the Mass. sister dealer is the main reason.

That's correct, it's optional in border states to allow dealers to sell across the line. Otherwise the folks in MA in this example would be a captive audience. I makes sense for dealers near the border to order it by default to make trading easier.
