I ordered my Mustang from a Minnesota dealership, but it is being shipped to California. Since it is not being shipped to MN, it does not get the standard engine block heater like I was hoping to get. I am assuming then, that the emissions will be set up for California as well.

Do the 2005 Mustangs that are being built for shipment to California have different emisiion systems on them than ones that are being shipped to other states?

Yes, I know the order guide states...
50 STATE EMISSIONS SYSTEM... Standard on all units

I still think there might be a difference in emissions.

I have actually been wondering the samething. I'm military and the 05 GT I ordered I will be accepting in Cali, which is my next duty station. The Military sales guy said that the Cali emissions would bog down some of the horsepower. I'm not from Cali so I have been trying to find out myself before I take delivery. If it does consume some of the horsepower I will have to take delivery some place else and just drive it to Cali. So, this is a question I have been waiting to pop up.

Since I'm military, I can license/title the car in my home state (MN) and I'm not limited to just the state I am stationed in (CA). You pay the sales tax in the state you title the car and Minnesota has a lower sales tax (6.5%) than California (LA County 8.5%). Wouldn't you do the same?

Will the emissions mess with the horsepower?

California has harder emission standards vs other states.

I dont think they are the same all the way across the 50 states.

I'd think a percentage would fail if you brang them to California from another state with a lesser standard.

They might make them so they'll pass the CA standard right out the door.... I'd hope.

I think the emissions do limit horsepower. Since it can only go so high to meet the requirement. It cant be using more gas, otherwise it will put out too much. (Took my Mercedes in recently and it barely passed a few of them, and its CA standard. If it was from another state, it might have failed. )

Im buying mine in California, just to be sure... (wont be for a while though).

This is from memory, but since I live in California I have been paying attention to it.
From what I understand, the first published stuff referenced different CA emissions and guidelines for states adjacent to CA.
The newest official literature DOES NOT have any reference to different CA emissions, implying that they are now all the same. Remember, Ford saves a LOT of money if they only have to test and support one emissions version.

The 05 Mustang has 50 state emissions. This means all cars are the same. No difference if you get one in Cali.
See page 8 of the order guide. Bottom left.

I can't find any literature on weather or not the '05 Mustangs will have different emissions for vehicles delivered to California. Does anyone know?

I told my dealer to ship the car to Las Vegas, instead of to California, so I can aviod the possibility of a horsepower limiting emmision system.

May I ask why you don't believe the order guide info that the Mustang has the same emissions in all states?

The 05 will have the same system on all cars for all states, i.e. all cars meet California emission standards
