C&L heat shield cracked. Had to pay for replacement
I am a little ticked today. I noticed over the weekend that my C&L heat shield cracked right where the ABS zip tie mounting point goes. I have the older POS shield that shipped with the intakes last june-july.
SO I called C&L, the best they could do for me was charge me 25 bucks (after a bit of prodding, they started at 35) for a new one (with thicker plastic allegidly). They claim these units have no warrantee past 30 days.
This is really not my idea of good product support for a 9 or so month old item.
I shelled out the 25 bucks + shipping I assume for the new one for now and bought a spare filter too. But overall, I think they could have done better by me. I am a engineer by trade, and 25 bucks is still well above their cost IMO without tooling being factored in. This should have been a gratis (or under 10 dollar) replacement. Let new sales pay for the recoupe of their tooling charges. The part was underengineered to begin with.
I have a small automotive side buisiness for 60's GM parts in addition to my DoD engineering work, and if a product fails, I take care of it. Period. That is how you keep customers happy.
At this point, when tilman releases the aluminum one for the C&L, I may be on that list.
End of rant.

Fwiw
I have a heat shield for the C&L street version I never even installed. If anyone else out there needs one I'll let it go for $15 shipped. To bad I wasn't aware you needed one. I agree they should have sent you a replacement one under warranty. Do they feel the part should be replaced every 30 days since that's how long they're willing to cover it?
