Brown TPMS spacers needed?

Are the brown spacers that snap on the TPMS mounting brackets necessary?

All of them broke when I removed them from the original cradle.

Thanks!

No, I think they're just used to hold the sensor to the band mounting bracket. The blue plastic thing is the sensor, everything else is mounting hardware.

Not sure why yours broke, mine just popped off when I removed them the other week.

Well it positively locks the sensor into the cradle, otherwise there is the possibilty the sensor can come out of the cradle.

FYI, they are $3.45 EA (!!!!) and come in packages of 20 (!!!)

There is one dealer within a 45 mi radius that has ANY!!!! I'd have to order 20. Or spend $8 in gas to pick them up.

They hold the sensors positively in the bracket and ARE needed.

Dunno. Guess I wasn't gentle enough with them. They seem kind of brittle.

I guess I can live with the TPMS light on until spring.

Let me check around 82, I know I can find them individually and I'll see how much they cost (I'm pretty sure less that 3.45 a pop)

Yeah. If they come lose then I have to spend $25 to unmount the tire, remount it and balance them and $3.45 for the F%*&#$% clip.

Another case of the $300 picture tube protecting a .10 fuse.

K. Thanks, Bob!! Let me know. KC might have them also.

Kind of odd that one dealership in the Chicago area has them.

The PVC "pipe bomb" works well, so far.

I think I'll deal with this when new tires are needed or the "pipe bomb" quits working.

any chance you have had slow leaks in tires and and luck that your car fits into that recall on the crap **** valve stems that had to be replaced ? just a thought , I had a leak took it to a Fireman friend that has a local shop then the following week when the car went into Ford for service they did them all per recall .

Dunno.

The rims I am referring to are some that I bought to run in the winter. The originals are in the basement.

It appears that the take offs had 3 sticker tires wo TPMS and 1 rim/tire with the sensor. They sent the sensors separate when the guy I bought them from complained.

Was going to have the sensors installed and tires remounted but after breaking the clips, I just built the "PVC Pipebomb" after Discount Tire quoted $100 to ummount, install the senors and remount/balance. That is with me suppling the sensors and bands.

I've got the sensors sitting in my center console to make the PVC pipe bomb, as well, that's why I had the clips off. What did you use for the air fill nozzle?

Dixie,

I used a NAPA 90-432 Universal Tubless Clamp in tire valve. 1.125" long. $2.85 or so.

Now to get some PVC paint and put a NOS sticker on it.

Pic.

3" PVC pipe, endcap, Threaded male cap, female coupler and the tire valve.

Packed it with foam to keep the sensors from banging around. Seems to hold 40 PSI so far.

Had to. Used PVC cement.

I thought an O ring might work but didn't get to it.

The PVC Pipe works

BUT

After about 18 miles of continuous driving the message center flashes "Tire Pressure Sensor Fault" and the tire light flashes then stays lit. Reset clears the message but the light stays on.

If I pull over, shut off the car and restart at 17 miles, the message does not appear until I drive another 18 miles.

The fault message clears and the light turns off if you turn off and restart the car. And does not come back on for 18 miles.

What is the significance of 18 miles?

Awww, what a let down, I was hoping this would work. :-(
Even bought all the parts yesterday afternoon.
By any chance, did the air pressure drop in the PVC "pipebomb"?

I've been driving without the rear sensors for the past two weeks, I find the distance driven is random before getting the message. Sometimes I'll start my car and won't get the message, sometimes it flashes every time I start the car for days on end. Sometimes it reflashes every so often. Hitting reset clears it, but it's still an annoyance.
