Anyone know if there is a break-in period?
If so, what do they recommend and for how long?
If dealers and test drivers ignore it... what might we see? Other than our :ranting:

They used to say something like, keep it under 2500 RPM for the first 1000 miles and then change the oil.

<painful admission> I normally cringe when folks jump in with the "do a search" statement...</painful admission>
Do a search...
There are a couple of active threads right now about how to break them in. I'm very much in the run them hard, just don't over heat them! club myself.
Do a search...

If that's the case, there are two GT's out there that i may have ruined during test drives. I took both of them up to near redline....sorry. Just another reason i prefer to order direct from the factory.

Who cares about the poor stinkers who buy them.
People like you are why some dealers don't allow test drives.

When I was looking to buy a GT, I went for a drive with a salesman, and HE was the one who punched it - pushed me back into the passenger seat.
The manual does not say don't drive it hard, it just says to vary the RPM for the first 1,000 miles. Vary could be interpreted as meaning between 850 and 6500.
The important thing is to not hold the RPM constant.

I test drove two GTs - turned TCS off and took both right up to the red line burning rubber in both. I ended up buying one, and my father the other. No ill effects on either as far as I can tell.

Picked mine up on a Friday night, the next morning I took her to redline every ride I gave to daughters, neighbors, friends, etc. No problems at all.

Feel free to buy me one as well! hehe
