Brake Squeal on cold start....Normal?

As some of you know, my rear brakes were just done, new rear rotors and pads. The last week I have noticed when I go out to my car, after it's been sitting for a while (overnight...I live in Colorado, so it gets cold) my brakes squeal slightly as I hit them to back out or at the first stop sign. Is this normal? Or do I need to call my brakes guy again ? BLAH

If they're ceramic, they will make some noise until they warm up... If it's a constant problem, take it back and have them put more anti-squeal paste on the backside of the pad.

They are ceramic! Thank you so much!

The fronts are still the originals. They said they were fine when I got the rears done.

My rears have been squeaking too lately and I just changed them last summer. Better just be the cold!

Well, to be honest, I was more trying to get an answer for myself, not you. But that's good, yours are good to go, right?

Since they only make the squeal when first backing out or at the first stop, here is probably what is happening.

You have new rotors and pads. The pads have shined the rotors....the rotors will sometimes develope a flash rust over night, as they cool and moisture settles on the shiney, unprotected surface of the rotor. Then you hear a squeal the first couple of times you use the brakes, until they wipe off the flash rust and go back to normal operation.

This is a normal condition with nothing to worry about. Take a look at your rotors for a couple of mornings, before you get into the car and see if I'm right.

Depending on the pads you may have squeal all the time.

I have performance pads on mine and they squeal from time to time... no biggie, just annoying.
