For you guys that already have your new toys, do the front wheels turn black from brake dust after a couple days of driving?

 

I don't have mine yet but I would expect there to be some brake dust, that is normal.

 

It really depends on whether Ford went to carbon brake pads or not. My '04 Mustang wheels stay clean all week. My '04 Escape wheels are black after 3 or 4 days of use.

 

Only have 293 miles on it but yes they do get dusty. A little tip I've learned is not to use chemicals to remove the dust until you have too. They clean up real eazy without them. A least with the upgraded wheels anyway.

 

I washed my car after a week of having it, maybe 650 miles on the car and there was noticable dust. It didn't look visibly bad, like major buildup, but when you wash the wheels its easy to see the spots you missed.

I think any major production car is going to have this, unless they have some ugly rims that cover everthing. I love those large rotors!

 

Yeap... Our Escape is notorious for black rims thanks to break dust. Have to wipe them down every 3 to 4 days it seems.

Hopefully the Mustang doesn't suffer from that.

 

Those are nice. I have them on my T-Bird. I can go a long time without cleaning them. And they look as clean as the back wheels. I think it has been a month since I last washed my car, and the front wheels look only slightly darker than the back.

 

Most newer factory pads create lots of dust, especially on heavier vehicles like SUV's. They can easilly be replaced with aftermarket pads like Hawk's. Almost every vehicle has pads available. Just get the 'street' versions like green-stuff's, they make 85% less dust and cost only a few bucks(about 100-150 bucks for the entire set). Never put race-spec pads on a street car. Wheel styles and the trend of putting calipers within a pens-width of the wheels has a lot to do with it as well. They never should of gotten rid of asbestos pads to start with, they are far superior to modern epoxy organic compounds. The chicken littles rule the world these days, but what choo gonna do, eh?.
