I recently saw a new GT's engine. (We haven't seen a lot of them around with the hoods open.) While it does look a lot better than the old engine it seems that the materials used get oxidized and rusty very quickly. I can't believe that a new car has white spots on the cam covers and a rusty harmonic balancer and exhaust manifolds. I also have seen some pictures of the the cars undercarage and it also has rusty parts right off the bat.

Has anyone here addressed these issues? Have you painted the engine or painted, clearcoated or powercoated any of the parts that have already rusted? It looks like I need to bring my car straight to the garage when I get it, and start taking it apart and put some kind of finish on most of the engine and under side.
It's going to be a long winter.

Check out a post by Hatchman about powdercoating the cam covers. Gives it a cool retro look.

Would you really pull your engine just so you could paint it some cool color combo? Probably not but the Cam Covers sure do help.

I don't think I'll be pulling the engine, but I might try to see how I can get at it while I'm pulling the cam covers and putting on the headers, etc. It needs someting.

The covers have "bugged" me since I have had the car so I finally got them painted to match the body color.

I agree with you. I have been using a brush-on rust encapsulator followed by black undercarriage paint. The rear axle housing and diff case were horrible. I plan to have my exhaust manifolds jet-hot coated this winter and my cam covers powdercoated.
