Big Thanks to all of you on The Mustang Source:
My only beef with not getting leather is that after awhile, the vinyl is coated with layer of hand oil & sweat that never seems to come off and your wheel is then perpetually coated with this slick film. *bleh*
What about the cap? Does it not come with a tether already?

No one should be getting the build sheet. I believe the people making the car is supposed to dispose of it.
Also, the dealer cannot guarantee that Ford won't randomly pick your car for some testing before being delivered to the dealer. My 2002 GT was selected at random, with a note left by Ford, stating that they put XX miles on it for random quality assurance testing.
You sound like the customer most salesmen hate to get. Meaning that you fully intend to buy the car, but demand more than 99% of car buyers out there. They usually just like to sit back and you drive a stock car off the lot that day without making the sales person work harder.

Congrats on your order MustangDan
Always nice to see someone who knows what they want and thinks a little out of the box. Many of us (me included) have a more sporadic moral compass.
I can just see the Ford Marketing Dept after reading this thread

All you guys amaze me. He doesnt have to justify why he is getting what he is getting. I can understand wondering why he is making his choices, but once he answered it should be "kewl..."
Lets not antagonize people over thier choices in life, or in thier car. Making comments about saving bugs and plants is not conducive to a positive atmosphere around here. Can we please just let it be?
Lets get back on topic folks.

I don't agree! Why should'nt he get his build sheet? Did you know that proper documentation to a vehicle makes it more valuable. What would happen if he decided to leave it to his son or daughter 20 years down the road as a collectors item? Barrett Jackson comes to mind. He stated up front in writing to the salseman, a list of his expectations to make the deal right. He is the paying customer. As a matter of fact, if a few more took this procedure, then maybe you would'nt have people out there paying $7000.00 over. I still can't fathom that one! If the dealership cannot supply him with a new car [Ordered ], not at random, with next to no miles on it, then I'd say, their in the wrong bussiness. If the mileage is too high, he can decline. He ordered a specific vehicle under specific conditions. [In Writing None The Less] You can't be any more specific than that! The reason most salseman hate to get a customer like US, as you put it, is because we have it together when we walk in. Sorry, but I'm also not in your 99%. Sounds like he done his homework, and has a nice car coming, and I commend him on his approach. Congrats MustangDan! AND ENJOY!

In my opinion, a buildsheet for older mustangs is more valuable because of the large amount of options avalilable as compared to today's Mustang's. There's what, 6-7 options for the 2005? There were atleast double that in the 60's. It lets collectors know how rare a car is, aside from the bodystyle/color. I don't see anyone paying a premium for 79-04 Mustangs that have a buildsheet. I know the buildsheet makes the care more valuable down the road as well.
And I hate to break it to you, but no amount of contracts with the dealer or claims that you'll turn the car away if it has over XX miles can make Ford not select it at random for quality assurance testing.
Those are the only 2 things wrong with his contract that his dealer cannot guarantee. Odds are that he won't receive a build sheet, nor will his car be selected at random and have more than XX miles put on it, but there is a chance for him to be waiting atleast 2 more months after a 'not correct' car is delivered when he orders again from a different dealership.
Thanks Merlot,
I did my home work from the graduate school of Mustangs, right here at the Mustang Source Forum
Thanks GregS2005GT,
Good flying tip! Fords Marketing might look at how in January 2005, Mercedes-Benz said that all future Mercedes-Benz models will be available with a completely leather-free option, either direct at the dealership or via special order in all markets. My salesman was ahead of the curve on this one.

I think it's great that you know what you want, and are willing to stand pat on it. The only time I have an issue is when people try to force their beliefs on others, which you are NOT trying to do, so I wish you the best.
Hopefully you will be able to find some sort of soft color-matched rubber or other material cover for your steering wheel... the hard plastic ones are usually pretty rough.

Congradulations on your car decision as well your values as well, we all make our decisions and we all live with them, we all as well have Moral and Ethical Values in place as well ! That is what makes us as individuals uniquiec ? Every One of us ought to be proud of who we are are what we have Isure as heck am. Ever see the show the Forgotten Lulliane Moore ? The allien didn't like someone and ZOOK they get stinked off into the sky , we just never know what life has in store for us so we should grsp the moment !

No, really. I know I've been a PITA at times. But we're all car nuts. Common thread. I know we'd be able to "talk cars" for hours on end. Perhaps being part of this board can help us all to rise above silly, petty differences. I think you're alright and I'm sure you'd feel the same about me if you got to know me. I've just got a few rough edges to smooth out. All in good time... B)
Still think it's AWESOME that you're going with the GT. Any Mustang turns my head, but the GT's growl speaks to the beast in me. My ears perk up whenever I hear that very distinctive exhaust note!
I'm ordering Saturday, March 19th. I hope your wait is brief.

I have to ask why not let them have the plastic plate holder on the
rear bumper for a month or two? I agree that there should be NO
stickers or badges because it's Dan's Mustang....not Jerrys, Sheehys,
Ted Britts or the dealer you used. The plate holder easily comes off
and does no damage. B)

Anyway, good on you for taking a proactive approach to finding a good salesperson, and getting exactly what you want. There's nothing wrong with that!
