So I was in AC for some MMA fights and was wondering around the Taj around 3 am. So I dropped 20 bucks on a roulette table and while I was busy flirting with the girl next to me I won 700 bucks. The drink I bought her only got me the fact that she is taken and not a number but that’s besides the point. This made me think of an interesting topic for TMS.

If you have a limited amount of money and were going to do some mods on your car, what would you do?

I personally am going to probably put that sexy start button in, XM Commander, and direct wire my radar detector. Now I don’t want to do perf mods till next summer so that’s out, but I will still have some money left after this so what do you guys think? Any other quick cheep mods?

I can see you're leaning towards looks, but I would recommend a JLT intake with SCT Xcal2.

for $700 I'd go with any of the following, lowering springs, exhaust, chin spoiler, quarter window louvers, shorty antenna, vinyl stripes, spoiler, single body parts from a kit such as front/rear bumber or side skirts.

If you wanted to spend a little more you could get a hood and get it painted.

it was MFC 5 USA vs Japan. my best friends is a wrestling coach for one of the MMA Fighters, who unfortunatly of an early scramble got caught in an ankle lock. The guy is a kickboxer at heart and is really trying to get established in MMA but its hard as his wrestling reflexes arent what they should be. Thats why my buddy and I have been drilling with him wrestling/grappling.

Anyways onto the car... I forgot about the sequential turn signals..... dangit i am gonna need more then 700 haha.


Next spring i am definately getting a new exhaust and intake but I dont want to add any more power just yet... I am thinking blow it osmething superficial for now.

SCT tuner (from Brenspeed or Bama) and intake. It makes a world of difference. You should have enough left over to buy a sequential splice in kit from Web Electric or a TB spacer from Auto Anything.

Don't be a ricer and spend money to make your car look pretty. That's what civic owners and girls do (with the exception of a few here). Make it go faster, you won't regret it. Muscle cars aren't about looks. Don't wait until the summer for this stuff.

I basically agree with what Dustin said, but I would have said it with a lot more sugar coating cuz I'm a nice guy like that...

The one and only cosmetic mod I'm getting is large, polished exhaust tips to fit over my stock ones. Here's a thread that has some links to exhaust tips:

Pardon my ignorance, but I know how and why a CAI works but could someone give me a touch more explanation on what exactly the tune do? and performance differences between the different octane tunes.

The tuner is little handheld computer that you buy that is configured for your car. It changes the parameters in your computer to maximize horsepower without damaging your car. You can stay at 87 octane but if you change to 93 octane on a CAI specific tune you will gain 25 - 30 HP over stock. The JLT + SCT2 tuner is gaining 30HP+

with a CAI and an 87 Tune would there be a performance gain?( I would like to avoid 93 octane at the current gas prices?

With a K&N CAI there would be about 15 horsepower gained w/o having to do a tune.

The JLT site says that a Tune is a MUST with the CAI, while the K&N says no such thing and seems as though its not needed. is there a difference between the two or is JLT just also trying to sell their tuner?

The question is I am a computer guy and am very good with my hands...carpentry electrical, plumbing etc.. my father was an AC/Heating guy , then electrician, then it guy so for two guys like that is there anything there you would recommend we stay away from as far as the install?

You will get a great deal more power and better throttle/driving characteristics with a CAI/tuner than just a K&N.

If you get one of the higher quality CAI's, ie JLT, C&L you will need a tune, or your car will lean out dangerously.

Greg, I got lucky one day and caught it on eBay. This guy had listed it twice. When it didn't sell at $200 he listed it again and I got it for $150. It was super clean & only had 1000 miles on it since he went with all Steeda products. It was all set up to go, all I had to do was attach it. Good luck!
