April, the exact same thing happened to me last week. I noticed that there was dirt on the side of my rear tire and it looked a little low, so I checked the air pressure and it was about 10psi low. I took it straight to the local Goodyear and had it plugged. Everything seems to be okay now.
It was the wierdest thing. This happened the day before Friday the 13th. Before I noticed the tire, my friend at work had a timing chain problem in his Toyota truck. Then later that night I went to change the oil in the wife's Lincoln and found out that the dealership left the oil cap off from the last oil change. It was the last of our free oil changes and I guess they had an idea that I wouldn't be back.

Oh well... Stuff happens. :bang:
Fixing it tomorrow. Oh How I despise going to the tire place. The two men in my life(dad and hubby) tell me I gotta go though, or I will be yelled at for driving on it by them.
Its my rear drivers tire  Stupid roofing nail!

Don't drive it with the nail in it except to get to the repair shop. If you throw that nail you will have a flat tire in seconds.
I've been driving and messing with cars for over 25 years now. Plugs are widely regarded as a temporary fix (good for days or even weeks, questionable after that). I've had 3 plug repairs done over the years and two of those lasted a few months before the tire started losing air. I traded the 3rd before it had a chance Patches are forever. I've had many patch repairs over the years and never once had a problem resurface. The shop will remove the tire and patch it from the inside. As long as the nail isn't in or near the sidewall, the tire can be patched. But you have to TELL them you want it patched, otherwise they might plug it. A good shop won't do plugs at all, but a neighborhood filling station will often take the easy way out and do plug repairs.

If you have a Discount Tire in your area they will fix it for free!!! They take the tire off the rim and patch it from the inside..It's a nice service they will do for everyone not just the people that buy tires from them..On a slow day they will have you in and out in 20 minutes.. At least that's what they do here in Southern Calif

I have about made up my mind to drive the Alero until one of the men can get her fixed- Hades, its there, its perfect and it doesn't have a nail in its tire. Also saves me from going somewhere I equate to having oral surgery--painful and unpleasant.
Poor Ellie She's gonna think I hate her.

Plug or patch?
Patch is better but if a large one is used, it can throw the wheel / tire out of balance.
I have plugged about a dozen tires in the last 21 years and never had a problem.
Plug kit will cost 5 or 6 dollars. I keep one in the trunk. Good to have for quick fix on the road.

I ended up with a sheet metal screw in my stock tire after having to drive through /past an accident scene.... that really hacked me off.
I traded those stock tires in since then.
Like others have mentioned I also recommend patching it - more durable fix

I've plugged many a tire over the last 20 years and drove them until they were dang near bald and needed replaced. Never an issue and walmart carries the kit for 5 bucks. I've even plugged them while still on the car. Just make sure you have an air compressor to pump it back up.

I honestly drove the Alero this morning! Jebus Chris that was a odd experience.
To think I drove it for 4 years........
I am taking Ellie out of the horse house soon and off to Big Ten to get a fix. Now let's hope I make it to the gas station- did you know you drink a lot of gas if you play like the Duke boys?

3-6 months? I've had plugs put into tires and then drove the car for years. My 97 GT had a plug put in the front tire the day I bought it. 3 years later and 60,000 km I traded the car in with the same tire on it.
I'd say bring it to a shop. Have them remove the tire and patch it from the inside if you are that worried about it but the plug is the cheapest route.

I had my tire on the Subaru plugged three years ago and it was still okay when I sold it. Must just depend on who does it I'd patch it up and see how it goes. I got mine plugged for free also. If you know a good mechanic he probably wont charge you for it.

Ok - I gotta ask.
What is a Befrick?
Befrack's buddy?
Some Ebonics term?
A spin-off of Bewitched? (Would that be Befricked?)
