I guess that's for when you are working under the hood and need to check and see if you have anything in your teeth.
Not sure why you'd need chrome right there. I like the stock black one. It holds my tools just fine.

Just to be clear here, you are talkign about plastic right??? Acrylic scratches like crazy and would require maint. just to keep it looking nice.
actually, you just have to take a soft rag/towel to it and it comes clean. I haven't had any problems with mine.
aluminum, billet, stainless, acrylic... it'll all scatch about the same if you go dropping things on it... so if someone is careless enough, you'll scratch anything.

I have both pieces the radiator cover and the fuse box cover.
Radiator cover looks great.....easy install just some black cualk or double sided tape. I HIGHLY recomend useing small clamps to get it to seat well.
The fuse box cover stinkS.........it just looks cheap I am taking it off this weekend. my 2 cents
