I took delivery of my Mustang on the 20th of November. The build date was September 4th. My salesman called me hours later to tell me that a co-worker noticed flaws in the finish on the hood as I left the dealership. He has offered to either repaint the hood or locate another car or order me another. I am not interested in the repaint, and there are no identical Mustangs (Legend Lime V6 premium with every available option except 54V, 17L & 918) available so I plan on reordering. He told me that we can't do this before Saturday, November 27th. If I order on that date, could the dealership guarantee price level code 515 even if the order is actually submitted on November 29th or later?

Why not just repaint? If its done properly you will never notice the difference.

I doubt it on the re-order at old pricing....but it's worth a shot.

If the re-paint is just on the hood only....it may be your best option.

if you repaint the hood it will likely be better then factory if they use a good bodyshop.

If you have them re-order, they'll just repaint the hood and sell to someone else. How about letting them repaint it. Then decide if you're happy and if not, have them get you another car.

That was going to be my suggestion as well.

How bad are the flaws? As far as deciding on re-ordering, the issue with the paint isn't your fault. Whether or not there is a price increase, it shouldn't cost you money to correct Ford's error.

Yes, how bad is it? Can you post some pics? It's hard to advise without more data.

I'd reorder...bad paint on a new car is unacceptable.

Ugh! Repainting the hood. It will chip easier than the factory finish. I wouldn't do it.

There are 2 flaws on my car. 1 corner of the hood looks like it was dipped in black paint. Very small, only I would notice and then another flaw on one of the rear 1/4 panels. Looks like 2 little indents in the body. I am not going to complain to FORD because I can live with them. If they start messing with them I will have a paint nightmare.

i would repaint..... its easier that way- and besides- if you reordered... what would you do if you got a car that had a million more things wrong with it- at least with this one you know its getting fixed at no cost to you, but if you reordered and it showed up with a bigger paint problem than this little one- it would be pointless.... - repaint!- plus like someone else already said- they're just going to repaint it anyway and sell it to someone else or something- your trash- their treasure....

Order a new factory hood. They should have them sitting lined up just out side the paint room. Waiting to go on the line. Seems they should be able to throw it on a truck and just bolt it on.

That's what they're doing with my bent spoiler.

Where about is the flaw's ?? If they are on either side of the peak of the hood you might want to consider lemans stripes down the mustang if they cover the flawed area .
This way there's no repaint of the hood and you get to keep the car you ordered.

As this is an early build, I think that perhaps the paint application program was wrong. Approximately 8" right down the center of the hood appears underpainted. It has a lighter, mottled appearance. The dealership has their own body shop, but it is my understanding that adjacent panels will also receive some paint. I really like this car without stripes. Sorry, I don't have a digital camera and I doubt that the defect would show up in a photo. Thanks all for your input.

Well then 05 fstbk has the best solution if it can be done and thats order a new hood with the paint on it from the factory and enjoy your mustang untill it shows up.

Mine had a spot on the hood similar to what you are talking about. After I Zaino'd it (clay bar, one coat of Z-5 and one coat of Z-2) it cleared it all up and has never come back.

The hood is installed un-painted on the bare body and then painted with the rest of the body. So there will not be extra painted hoods lined up outside the paint shop.

The spoiler and the bumper covers are supplied by outside vendors. They are painted at the vendor. If you have good eyes, you'll notice that the bumper covers and spoilers often do NOT perfectly match the paint color on the rest of the body and often they have more orange peel on them.

The problem with getting the hood re-painted is that the color may not perfectly match AND it will fade differently than the rest of the car. The factory paint is baked on. Re-painting in a body shop will used different hardeners in the paint because it will not be baked. Even if the re-paint looks close today, chances are 5 years from now the re-painted areas will NOT look the same.

I would order a new car, be greatful that your dealer has made that offer.
