Back in a Mustang

I sold my 2005 Mustang GT to buy a 2006 Dodge Charger Daytona. I love the Daytona, but always missed the Mustang. I wanted a GT 500, but that would have made my payments too high, since I wanted to use the 0% for 36 months offer.

So I ended up ordering a GT 500 clone from Lone Star Ford in Houston. The exterior is an exact copy of a real GT 500. The interior and drivetrain are stock Mustang. I'm sure the Shelby faithful will hate me, but I'm happy to have a very unique car at a price I could afford. I should have it in about 3 weeks.

Welcome to the club, although I built my own.... I do not refer to it as a clone because a clone would be a copy, part for part -- and we all know these "clones" today are only appearance modifications. I consider mine a tribute with bite (Whipple that is)..... and a few personal touches that make it unique....

Tribute with bite... I like that. I agree about the word "tribute" versus "clone". I change my avatar and profile.

Nice rig... love the look of the GT500 front end. Just curious.. what's the $$ delta between your 'clone' and a standard GT ?

Welcome back!

I'd also be interested to know where you can get these? Lots of guys at work would like to have a GT500, but don't want to spend the money.....

It's about a $10K add-on for the GT 500 conversion. Lone Star Ford in Houston is the dealer that builds them and sells them. And it's more than the front end, it's the spoiler, hood, wheels, tires, emblems, etc. If one of these was parked next to a real GT 500, you couldn't tell the difference by looking at the outside. I think the only giveaway on the car is the exhaust. The rest of it is very, very accurate.

Jon,

I don't think the exhaust looks any different, except maybe the underside. The GT500 exhaust uses a x-pipe that resembles the Bassani but I believe the mufflers/tailpipes look the same as the GT.
