Auto vs Manual

I went 20+ years without driving a manual. Took a little time for me to get back in it.
I test drove both an auto and a manual. I personally liked both.
I ordered the manual because:
1) I do a lot of highway driving = manual
2) I drove an automatic for the last 20 years = manual
3) Smoky burn-outs = manual
Though the last one can be done on an automatic, it's a little tougher on the tranny.
Plus, with the manual, you save around $1,000.
Automatic does make things easier, especially if you're doing stop and go traffic on a regular basis.
In the end, get what makes sense to you and makes you happy.

I got the auto because the wife said no auto, no mustang so auto it was. I love the auto in the traffic around here(Atlanta) but if traffic isn't an issue for you, go manual. This is a fantastic auto though so get what will make you happy. Nobody who has driven my car has made a negative comment about the auto, even if they had ribbed me about it before.

when you shift the manual from 1st to 2nd you can leave rubber and when shifting to 3rd the tires chirp. My question is, is the auto capable of the same thing
Also what kind of burnout is the Auto capable of?
The auto is fun to drive, don't let anyone try to shame you into buying a car you don't like. If you already like to drive manual you won't be dissapointed buying the 5 speed, if you don't like driving stick, you wont like it in this car either so go with the auto.

Mine Auto chirps going into second. And what's really fun is when you are coming up to a red light and you know it is about to turn green (b/c you go through this intersection twice a day) and your doing about 20 - then you punch it (t/c off) much more than a chirp, your spinning back there! 
Of course, this is only when there are no other cars at the intersection that may run the orange light (combo of red and yellow)

Me, I went with the auto because of traffic and a ruptured disk that sometimes makes me want to cut off my left leg with a rusty spoon. B) No complaints with the auto. How could you not have fun driving this car?
If you are on the fence on this decision I would say go with the manual. It is a lot of fun and it's a thousand bucks that stays in your pocket.

Jeff, my advice is that you drive both before you make up your mind based on forum comments. You'll probably get the MT because you save $1000 and you live in a lightly populated area. I drove both and they were both nice. Equally fast up to about 90 where the MT edges the AT only a little. Make sure you do drive both.
If you're wishy-washy from the get go, get the auto.
But if you're the kind of person who knows what they want, you know what to get.

It had been 9 years since i'd driven a manual. When I first got my GT, I began to second guess my dicision to go with the manual. After a couple of weeks, my only regret with the manual is that my wife can't drive it.
