Auto Shifter Problem. Not the Usual.

2005 Mustang GT. The shifter for the auto trans will not move pass drive. It operates normally otherwise but will not physically move pass drive. It feels like it hits something soft because it has a little "give" when it comes to a stop. Any ideas?

Only thing Id suggest (what I would do) is take it apart and see what is going on. It held together by a few clips and screws.
